Good choice on the N64. I lent mine out many, many years ago and was only given it back around 6-12 months ago. It really is a great console. Completing Ocarina of Time again made me miss the quality of games back then. Out of the 'small' list, i'd go for the SNES. Its one of the undisputed best consoles of all time and is essential to any collection.

The 360's cooling system is not designed to relieve the cpu of all the heat when it's on its side. Also it's a lot of work to put on the DVD-ROM to have it on its side like that. Just avoid it, really... do.
So is it bad to put the wii on it's side or is it made to do that? I'd assume it's made to do that since you haven't mentioned anything about it.

PS3 is ment to stand up on its side, it has more area to let off heat and its drive doesnt have the creeping quality the 360 disk trays do.
I gather Wii is too cause it comes with the stand and all. I stood my PS2 on its side and it didnt break down (was original) and the new ones can stand on there side well too.

Wii mods are easy to do and the chips aren't that expensive. I have all the emulators from my GC for use on my Wii now, although I am considering getting a few of the ones written specifically for Wii that give compatibility with the Wiimote and the Classic Controller(although I don't own a classic controller).

I picked GC just because it's cheap and the games are cheap. It has a decent selection of games to choose from despite being hated by so many people.
Atari 2600 (AV mod), NES, SNES (region switch for PAL), Virtual Boy, Gamecube, Wii (D2CKey), PSX (Stealth V), PS2 (independence exploit w/ 160 GB HDD), Goldstar 3DO, Philips CD-i, Dreamcast, Saturn (racketboy's chip), Sega Genesis 2 + CD2 + 32X + Power Base Converter, Game Gear.
