I think Silpheed is great, but my favorite shmups on the Sega Cd are Robo Aleste and Android Assault. I've heard Lords of Thunder is good too, but I haven't picked it up yet and I did hear the Turbo Graffix cd version is a bit better. Another one is Keio Flying Squadron, it's a cutsey shooter, but I never played it because it goes for 150 bucks or so.Guinness wrote:Yes, Silpheed is great. Think of it as one part Star Fox to two parts Galaga. It's a 3D shooter on rails, with organized patterns of enemies. It's by far the best shooter on SEGA CD. The backgrounds were phenomenal for the time.
I can just remember two more shooters, both side scrolling. Sol-Feace, which was a pack in for the American release of the SEGA CD, and Lords of Thunder.
Robo Aleste is a vertical shump and has a great array of weapons, challanging levels, and interesting enemies great boss fights. Plus it's actually got a story and some badly voice acted cinema's. It's the sequel to the genesis game MUSHA, which is the the best shooter on the system IMO.
Android Assault much in the same vain as the Thunder Force series. Fast and furious action, chalanging levels and a awesome/cheesy heavy metal sound track.
Best part is both titles you can find complete for around 10 bucks. Both are worth it. If I had to choose one I'd go for Robo Aleste.
