I would assume the Switch 2 would have an increased power draw in conjunction with newer HDMI standards which would make the original Switch docks incompatible.

I assume either by its dimensions or by physical keying it wouldn't fit in the Switch 1 dock to avoid issues. Wait and see though.

Ok, what are people's Switch 2 predictions? I predict we will see:

Elden Ring
New 3D Mario game
Halo Master Chief Collection
Metroid Prime 4
Mario Kart 9 (obviously, since they technically already showed it)
Yooka Replayee
Forza Horizon?
Call of Duty
New Donkey Kong
Upgraded Switch games (e.g. BOTW)

Wild card guesses that are probably not happening (just yet):
Splatoon 4
Mario Maker 3
Oracle of Ages and Oracle Seasons remakes
Wind Waker HD remake or remaster

Well, that was all quite a surprise. I probably won't even be able to parse it all for a couple days.

They announced so much stuff I had to watch it twice :o

I missed half of it the first time. I hadn't even noticed Final Fantasy VII Remake was announced for example.

This isn't that surprising, but still disappointing for physical collectors. It has been announced that some physical games will merely act as 'keys' and will not contain any data, instead launching a download once inserted into the Switch 2.

Looks like you will have to download the game first, but you should be able to play it without an internet connection once you download it.

Also, I saw that games might be regularly selling for $80 Digitally and $90 Physically. There is a rumor that Grand Theft Auto VI might be released at $100. That is a pretty significant increase in price.

I know the new cartridges use faster storage, so they’re probably more expensive to manufacture, and this will keep larger games from being too expensive to manufacture and sell. There were already complaints about standard Switch cartridge sizes and costs.

Agreed. I am mostly at peace with physical media becoming a thing of the past. It is still a shame though and whilst it's true that it is a measure to keep costs down, some company's did use it quite obnoxiously. Capcom released some games that were like 5 or 6GB on 1GB cards and forced downloads and then later on just did those "code in a box" type releases (I think that was more common here in Europe).

The move to everything being internet based is also a bit restrictive. My brother has severe learning difficulties. You give him a console and a cartridge and he can put it in and play and manage it all himself for the most part. But as soon as you need internet connections, accounts and it becomes more complicated than a click of a button, then he needs adult support and not everyone is that savvy with video games systems. Plus he lives in a remote part of the countryside with crap internet (although that will be less of an issue as they continue expanding high speed fibre across the country).

I love how easily people bend over for corporations. If you don't want physical to die then DON'T BUY THE SWITCH 2 or DON'T BUY ANY OF ITS DIGITAL RELEASES.

But people can't go through life without consuming the latest thing so that won't happen

If Switch 2 makes all of their cartridges nothing more than unlock keys than I am officially done with Nintendo products going forward. As a retro gamer, this isn't a problem for me.

It won't be all games. It probably depends on the size of the game, the popularity and position of the publisher. People have the option of boycotting those key card games if they want.

It has already been revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will ship complete on a 64GB card without any download being required.
