I fired up the Origins version and can confirm, no it does not have an easy mode. Not a deal breaker, I just figure it would be a good starting point to test the waters with. From Google'ing, it seems that the pixel remaster version reigns king. But not many people specifically say why. I figure it's probably due to quality of life things like the in-game maps. And also, the Origins version has very small load times for things. Like a second (perhaps even less) to load the menu screen. Or about 2 seconds to load a battle. Compared to pixel remasters where it's instant for all of those things.

Me too. It's not a high water mark of the series by any stretch of the imagination, but I found the GBA port of FFII a fairly pleasant play-through. It definitely wasn't the nightmare that other people seem to depict it as.
