I have both MVS and AES and I have to say it's MUCH cheaper to go MVS but you are going to have to invest in either a SuperGun or a Cabinet to play the games. So you need the room and time to invest in that. I have an old woody and I have the MVS hooked up to that.

The problem with the AES (while it is sexy) is that the games cost a ton and the best signal you are going to get is either composite or s-video.

The MVS hooks up RGB to a monitor and gives you the best pic possible (if you go arcade route)

Make sure and look at what you are going to be hooking it up to. If its a TV make sure and get yourself a good old fashioned tube. You don't want to be playing these games on an LCD or Plasma screen. They look like crud and you'll have to worry about LAG which is something you don' want to deal with on those fighters.

Things to consider...

You can get RGB out of an AES but it requires internal modification.

However if you get an AES with a serial lower then 10000 it already supports it. However if you're in the US your TV's don't support RGB do they? I'm not sure if that's true though I can't remember.

I'm just glad we can have RGB over scart :D

I bought my AES off of ebay about a year ago from a guy in Texas, for 300, with two controllers, Blues Journey, Baseball Stars Pro, Magician Lord, and Nam 75. I then later dropped 250 bucks on a mvs converter (well worth the money) the started getting MVS carts: Neo turf masters (best golf game ever),Fatal Fury, samurai showdown, busta move again, metal slug 1,2,X, League Bowling (love it) and some others. But all of the mvs carts were given to me, but they do go for dirt cheap on ebay (sometimes)

I bought mine last month on ebay for $240 no box, but did come with two NGCD pro controllers, and samurai showdown 1 and 2 plus the SS2 soundtrack. the AES is just a 2D powerhouse and if you have the money and the will to buy it by all means go for it, but if you dont have the cash to spend on the high priced games, go for a suppergun or 4 slot MVS, i think its way worth it, more bang for your buck. Im actually considering selling my AES collection for a 4 slot consolized MVS

I picked one up in october. Boxed matching serials system is modded with Svid and debug bios. Two sticks and a memory card. One stick extension cable. I have about 13 games (one conversion the rest original) and counting. System was 260 shipped with the accessories. All in all I've spent about 1100 or so usd.
