Some badass Wizardry art (yes, these are ports of the North American games, not Japan-only spin-offs)...
PC Engine CD
PlayStation

I've seen some of those Wizardy ones before. Really cool stuff. I also really love that AD&D one.

Where is the comparison art?
Where's my chippy? There's my chippy.

Just stumbled across the the japanese boxart for oxbox exclusive Breakdown (which is kinda a cool game, especially for the FPS genre). The American box art is nothing to write home about, but the Japanese boxart makes it looks like a badass 80's action epic.

Totally awesome. Makes me want to import it just for the art.
Here is the US art for comparison.

All of the circles are essentially blanks. It reads in Japanese as:PresidentLeever wrote:I've always wondered what the Ooze one says, it looks more like an ad than box art.
'Kisetsu wa mou "maru," "maru" to ieba yappari "maru." Demo "maru" ni iku "maru-maru" mo nai shi.... Demo sekkaku no "maru" dakara nanika "maru-maru-maru" wo "maru"-ritai. Torendo ni "maru"-ru no wa "maru-maru" rashii shi, ka to itte dokuji no "maru" wo kangaeru no wa "maru-maru-maru"-i. Ah sou da. Ji U-zu!'
I think it might be referencing something, but I'm not sure what. Translating it would be a challenge, but somewhat literally translated, without filling in any of the blanks, it might come out something like:
'The season is already ____, and speaking of _____, it's really _____. However, there's no _____ to get to ______. It's ______ after all, though, so I want to ______ __________. _______ing the trends seems _______, too, yet considering my own ______ is ___________. Oh, of course. The Ooze!'
If I fill in the first two blanks with 'spring' and the third with 'cherry blossoms,' the first sentence comes out more like: 'It's already spring, and spring is really about the cherry blossoms.' I would have trouble sensibly filling in the rest of the blanks on that line of thought, though.
It's a confusing box. There's something written along the right edge, that seems to be explaining something, but the image isn't detailed enough for me to read much of it. Also, there are tags on it for 18 and up (with a red X over it) and 'for all ages' next to the Sega logo (with a thought bubble out of it saying 'cartridge version'--I wasn't aware there was anything other than a cartridge version).

Re: Japanese Box Art of Western Games.
Got it:

The back of the cover is a mirror image of the front, with the blanks filled in. It says:
'It's Autumn, and speaking of Autumn, I should be up in the mountains. I don't have the money to get to the mountains, though--. I'd like to make it memorable since it is Autumn, after all. It's sort of dumb to follow the trend, but who wants to think for himself? Oh, I know. The Ooze!'
I'm no marketing wiz, but I'm not surprised I'd never seen this box anywhere before.
