Comeon Mechwarrior Online 2.0...
Re: MechWarrior 5 is a thing again.
This is fortunately going to be single player only with no microtransactions according to the PC Gamer interview.

It's going to be PC only but I'm really looking forward to the new Battletech game.Exhuminator wrote:I would like a new MechCommander game for Android.

I got a chance to play it earlier this year. The most interesting thing it does tactically is the initiative system based on weights. Once you're in combat it switches to turn based, and the way the turns are set up is that in turn 1 the light mechs get to move and fire, then in turn 2 the mediums, etc. The important thing, though, is that a mech can defer its movement to a later turn. This gives you lots of tactical flexibility. In the demo I played combat starts before any units are within striking range, so being able to defer your turn lets you force your opponent to move into range first, probably taking a long range shot that will likely miss, then you get to move to a better position (such as flanking or just point blank) and get in your own attacks. The goal was to encourage people to use lighter mechs and I think they've succeeded at it.

Can you stack unused turns?MrPopo wrote:The important thing, though, is that a mech can defer its movement to a later turn.

No, in a given round everyone has to take their turn. It's just instead of in the first section you can wait until the fourth section if that would confirm a tactical advantage for you.

Re: MechWarrior 5 is a thing again.
So if a light mech deferred its turn, hoping to move after a heavier mech, but the heavier mech also deferred its turn, then that means the light mech would have to take its turn before the heavier mech regardless. So I have to assume that during a multiplayer game, the players are not told if the other player deferred their turn?

Oh, I see what you're asking. You can continue to defer your turn until the final phase of the round if you like. There's also priorities during each phase that wasn't immediately obvious during the demo. So conceivably everyone could defer til the last round and now it just goes one side, then the other. But on the flip side if you have mechs with good long range weaponry maybe you want them to take their turn when it comes up to deal some damage, maybe knock out a weapon or two.
