Hi there !
@Gunstar Green : Thank you for answering the form. As I was researching the changes of audiences because of social media I wanted to see if, and how much, it applied to video games players. I understand that not everyone is very active on social networks, but it's also really interesting to have an idea of who, why and if you use other platforms (such as forums!).
@J T : These are very interesting questions. As I am doing a masters dissertation and not a PHD Thesis I decided that the research wouldn't be representative of the gamers entire population (decision taken because of the feasability of the project). When I tried to define how wide should be my sample and how to make it a representative sample, I understood that I couldn't reach this goal by posting on forums or other platforms. While it was one of the best means for a student to access to gamers...! Indeed, I'll never know who would answer (in terms of location, language, etc.). Thus, the sample couldn't be representative.
Also I would have needed a huge sample of participants as it would have had to relate to the amount of players in the world (with different languages, in different countries, etc.).
I decided to go for an exploratory research with a sample which is not representative of the entire gamers population. The project will thus try to explore what are the social media habits of this particular sample of gamers. As I still wanted to get answers for as many different profiles as possible, I published on various forums, groups, etc. I picked several platforms for each category of game and did not focus only on one type of games. I also published on global gamers websites in order to reach a wider public. In this way, the sample will be random.

Anyway, thanks a lot for answering it and for your feedback, I really appreciate your interest in this matter!
@Anapan : I understand your concern.

I actually do not mean to have a representative sample but to better understand what are the habits in terms of social media and video games for a random sample of gamers. This could indeed be extended to a wider segment of the gamers population; a representative one. But it would most likely be part of a PHD project. At the moment I'm exploring and looking around to see what I can find. I'll post something in this topic once the project will be finished. This would be around September.
@ElkinFencer10 : I'm happy to read this! I have to admit that this was a complicated matter when I was working on the questionnaire. Usually, researches which are not seeking for very precise data regarding the gender of participants do not disclose other choices thank the usual "male" and "female". When I was implementing this particular question to the questionnaire I just thought this was unfair not to propose several options. Indeed, I couldn't include every possibility as this wasn't the point of my research.

Thank you for answering the survey!
