Best collectable PC games?
Re: Best collectable PC games?
I've got that Civ Chronicles box it's amazing. Of all the dumb luck I found it at goodwill maybe a month ago for around $2. None of the discs looked used, paper fold outs are in great shape and the card game is still sealed which was a surprise. Shame I still can't do Civ1, but #2 is virtually the same and has a 64bit patch. Just need to find time for it. :\

Is it? I saw it selling on ebay for around $40 tops. I was kind of surprised it wasn't more.

It either must have come down or I checked during a bizarre price spike; when I looked a month or two ago, I couldn't find it for less than $70 on eBay.Tanooki wrote:Is it? I saw it selling on ebay for around $40 tops. I was kind of surprised it wasn't more.

PC games are the only type of video game they seem to still flat-rate price at Goodwill. I've really lucked out there - looking at my shelves here I see I got the following games (+ more) for 50 cents or a buck each: The 7th Guest, Darkstone, Deus Ex, Diablo, Disciples II, Doom II, Half-Life 2, Inca, Interplay's 10 Year Anthology, Leisure Suit Larry, Mechwarrior 2, Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, Return to Krondor, Sonic CD, Tetris Worlds, The Ultimate Doom, Wizardry VII, Wolfenstein 3D....... Definitely smart to hit up the thrift stores for PC games. Hell, I've even found Amiga games thrown into the mix.

Huh Elkin or when I looked it was in a dip, stuff happens.
My Kilrathi Saga set last year and years past was a relatively easy $100 but some dumb dumbs were selling their copies being impatient with $30-40 BINs and it killed the open market value for the time being. I won't let the one go for less than what I have in it (and that's not including the ebay+pp bite which would be a loss) at where I have it now so I just let it sit. Eventually I'll just pull it and leave it be or just let it roll until it goes up again as I really don't care.
I've got to agree with bone. I don't see PC stuff show up a heavy amount at all at goodwill, spotty at best, but when it does it falls under their honest video game printed on the wall pricing of $2.25 or $2.50 whatever it is. I do find it though at Half Price Books (getting lesser as the years go sadly) and another local spot sometimes too. What I do is if I have an interest I fire up my phone and google if I can run it at all, like if it still will run in windows 8/10 64bit or if someone made a personal hack they shared (like the ones for Sim City 2000 windows, CIV2 Windows, Dune 2000, and others I've come across.) I'll then keep the game, but if it gets into old floppies I just ignore it unless it's already on GoG and then it's fun having the real paperwork at that price.

My Goodwill's got nothing but PC games. All of the stuff below was $5 or less there.

Yeah the FPSs on PC are always better as twin sticks will forever be less accurate and therefore suck compared.
I went to a half price books today they had quite a few things, even that half life box with 1+2 and all their addon packages (so like 5 things in it?) and it was just a few bucks, knights of the old republic 2, and various others. Fools had nearly side by side 2 copies of starcraft 1, one was on top shelf to show it off for $4, and less than 12 inches away another same copy for $1 with a clearance tag on it.
Gee I wonder which will go first?

Just a few days ago I finally found two thrift stores in reasonable driving distance from where I live. Checked out one of them today, but they didn't have any games. Plenty of books though, might check them out again. I also found a Goodwill down near where I work, I'll have to check them out as well.
For now, going off of Ebay prices, I'm sticking to the Ultima games. They seem to be really good bets for quality material in the box. If I can find a thrift store with a section of dirt cheap PC big boxes, I'd probably clean them out.
But keep the good suggestions coming guys, I appreciate them. After I'm satisfied with my Ultima boxes I'll start prowling Ebay for other series as well.

Lol must be nice. Posted this in the "Look What I found" thread but this is the standard PC game pricing at my Goodwill. Abhorrent pricing:BoneSnapDeez wrote:PC games are the only type of video game they seem to still flat-rate price at Goodwill. As far as your question, I've started to collect big box PC games and love the ones with big manuals/collectibles! I believe the Duke Nukem 3d box comes with a Duke mouse pad which is pretty cool. Also the big box art is classic. I just bought the Atomic Edition for Mac and am bummed out in retrospect, should have got the original with the mouse pad!
