I think this might actually have even better atmosphere than the original, and I prefer the original to SS2.Exhuminator wrote:It looks like a great remake for the casuals who can't handle the original.

Looks freaking amazing. People dogging on the bump mapping though haha, but I actually like it a lot and always dug that about id's games. I think it's a stylistic touch and looks good here.
Pumped to have two versions of this to check out now.
(I still plan on checking out the Enhanced edition).
Would be cool if they remake 2 as well in this same engine. I love the Dark Engine, but I'm pretty lazy with PC gaming as well. Having a remake of 2 that looks like this out of the door would be cool.

When this releases, I foresee articles coming from various gaming blogs about how far System Shock was ahead of its time.MrPopo wrote:I think this might actually have even better atmosphere than the original, and I prefer the original to SS2.

Looks pretty awesome so far.
Though I am saddened by the lack of music. The whole time I was watching the demo I could hear the original music in my head. It's just not the same without it.
Maybe there will be an option or something. I can hope.

I haven't even played 1 to compare it to musically, but the thought of a SS2 remake without that would kill me. So yeah I definitely hope they have an option for it at least. Otherwise it's looking awesome to me.
Did the original have voice overs too?

The CD re-release of the original was voiced. All the logs were voice logs and SHODAN taunted you over the intercom.

I like what I see. Neat how the circuit puzzle was done directly in the game world without it opening up into a separate small window.
That said, I kind of miss those separate small windows. Those and the icons at screen's edges gave the UI a unique feel which I liked. I hope the final game retains that "not an FPS" feel, I enjoyed that when I played through SSEE last year.
But I'm completely okay if they revamp the cyberspace parts into something a bit more fun.

Looks solid. These guys have been a favorite of mine in the last year. I've picked up the Turok release and the System Shock and Strife classic upgrades as well on GoG too. Pre-that they did the freebie of DOOM EX which uses their engine and the data from a N64 DOOM ROM you 'must own' (ahem)
and then it modernizes it with lots of nice little touches and obviously keyboard/mouse control too.
I hope they get this out soon I'd like to try it.
Thanks to the copy of Torchlight on GoG I got gifted and knocked out in 9 evenings I'm now picking into my GoG pickups from the last Winter sale which I went overboard on. Currently doing Bastion, not sure I enjoy it yet but it's not bad either. Oddly I'm enjoying gaming again a bit at least as far as the PC goes.
