I getcha. Yeah, that would be a no go then. Not replacing a 300+k car with another 300+k car...

But Thomasville is not to far from King Frog or Tallahassee. You could try to sell it to a college kid?

Wow, you live a lot further south than I thought you did. For some reason I thought you lived a lot closer to Macon.

I'll consider that if the junkyards are a bust.

I spend a lot of time in the Macon/Milledgeville area due to my fiancee's family living in that region. I also visit Atlanta about twice a year for the same reason.

Let me know the next time you come up, and maybe we'll go grab a beer or something.

Sounds like a plan.

But no touching.

There are 100 times more flakes (ie: no-shows, people who stop responding to emails, etc) than there are truly scary people. At least in these parts.

But yeah, the inherent problem with selling a large item is that you may have to give out your home address. In addition to trying to sell a car right now I'm also trying to unload some old dining room furniture. I'll be meeting people at a public storage building - not my house - for both sales. For smaller stuff I go to Panera Bread.

When I moved last summer I gave away a bunch of old PCs in the Free Stuff section of craigslist. When I met up with the guy he seemed shocked to see me and said, "I almost didn't come, my son warned me that this was a scam." I asked him how it could be a scam if I was giving away everything for free. The guy paused for a minute, contemplated, and then said nothing. It was like I could see gears in his head spinning and then grinding to a halt. craigslist, man...

A police station parking lot is a good place to do this too.

If your selling a car it might not be a bad idea to set the meet up somewhere with a notary since you will have to transfer the title over.

Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program to support your local public radio station.
I'll second this. You can always go to npr.org for more information.

In short, they pick up the car, you get a big tax break, and your local NPR station gets funding. It's a win win, win.

Good idea for a thread as everyone loves giving advice. Too much at that.

This was my first thought actually, because I listen to NPR all the time (Tallahassee has one of the largest NPR stations in the country). But would this CTVD program be interested in a beat up old 1996 Lumina? I figured they were only interested in vehicles that were in reasonable aesthetic condition and at least post 2000.
