since I'm playing this now, I was thinking the same thing. Heck, you can even zoom out the camera so that it looks like an Infinity Engine game.Jmustang1968 wrote:Dragon Age Origins can also be a great starting point as it is very accessible and you can take different approaches to how you play it.

yeah I tend to zoom it way out a lot in battles so I can keep an eye on everything easily at once. And then zoom it in close when I'm exploring towns, etc. Another feature that I can't imagine losing on the console version.Jmustang1968 wrote: How do you think I played it? Lol

Re: (Seeking Advice) I want to play a cRPG. Where should I b
Let me give some background...
I'm familiar with DnD 3.5 (participated in several campaigns). I can competently play one of the simpler classes and/or DM the more "RPG" elements of the system. I never really got a good grasp of the magical classes. I also played one campaign of Shadowrun. Shadowrun seemed, to me, much more open. More of a RPG game vs. DnD's combat focus. (I wonder how Shadowrun: Returns this would translate into a cRPG?)
Video game wise, I'm looking at isometric/top down games more. I've played and enjoyed Dragon Age and Fallout. Diablo 2 is easily that game I've poured the most hours into.
I think that classic DnD set is the ultimate goal--Baldurs Gate, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Planescape: Torment--but it was my initial installation of Baldur's Gate EE the other night that left me a bit overwhelmed.
I really like how Shadowrun looks, and I think that is the front runner, followed by Divinity and Pillars of Eternity.

Baldur's Gate you'll really want to read some FAQs on character builds; well written ones will explain WHY you want the stats you do and are building the character you do. The magic system is definitely more complicated to use than modern magic systems as it uses that Vancian magic.

you can zoom out and in on consoles, just not as far.

I vastly prefer that look, having played with both. So no, no birds-eye view, but the game isn't built around tactical combat that much anyway.

Yes, you can pull the camera out. But you can't play it in a view like Infinity Engine, like I had said you lose on the console, and you said I was wrong.dsheinem wrote: you can zoom out and in on consoles, just not as far.
Good. Then it works for you on consoles. But like I said, I can't imagine playing the game w/o this feature now that I'm used to it.I vastly prefer that look, having played with both.
huh? The way I play it, it's pretty full of tactical combat. Maybe BECAUSE of the option to Baldur-ize the camera.the game isn't built around tactical combat that much anyway.
