As with any internet post, it would help to know the person's age. I could see this happening to my 22 year old self, getting impatient while they escalated the issue, then heading to the Internet and ripping some first level customer service person. Then later in the day I get a phone call from someone who can actually do something about it, and all is well.
I would wager he was never in danger of being responsible for those transactions and panicked early. Or the story is somewhat exaggerated or fbricated of course.

Don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this is one of the big reasons it's a hugely bad idea to buy digital games on consoles. Maybe buy games in a format where they actually belong to you next time...
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Buying digital games is not a hugely bad idea -- indiscriminately linking your credit card(s) to your account is...just like any other online store/service.MrEco wrote:Don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this is one of the big reasons it's a hugely bad idea to buy digital games on consoles. I smell a nice big fat winable lawsuit here....

I don't. I'm sure it's in their EULA and ToS for something like this. I'm with Dave, I understand that any games I usually purchase digitally are only a license for me to play the game and aren't my property.
It could be a range of any issues that the person isn't disclosing. For all we know, the kid could've linked his account to a friend's, the friend sold the box and then got stonewalled out of his account and content. Or on the other end it could've been leaked during one of Sony's security breaches.
In the end though, as long as the problem was remedied, then no big deal.
