Re: PS1 Controller Love?
I've never had the original, non-Dualshock PS1 controller, but I've always wanted one without the Dualshock on it, just to try it out. I've always noticed that games on PS1 feel pretty nice with the control pad. Almost as if the games were designed to use the PS1 Control Pad vs. the typical Dualshock design.

As a side-note: the ASCII Grip is only $8 brand new on eBay so I may check it out

It just feels great to not have the additional weight of the dualshock when it's not needed. Not saying it's a drastic weight difference between the regular and dualshock models, but I appreciate the simplicity of the original controllers. Definitely recommend just owning one, since they can usually be found for dirt cheap.

I did not realize that one armed gamers were such a large demographic in Japan.
Not necessarily one armed, but limited control in one arm - say arm in a sling.

I don't buy it man. This is a controller designed with enhanced lethargy in mind.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Fair enough. I will close with most people I know who use them for the reasons I stated, I know several people who own them just to own them.

You are both wrong. The controller was designed so that you can play 100+ hour JRPGs while running on a treadmill.

I know you are joking, but that was what I used mine for after I got my arm function back.

If I owned two of them, I'd put one in each hand, and then playing fighting games against myself.

I imagine it'd also make for more of an ideal jump rope than the traditional controller. The ASCII Grip in one hand and the actually plug in the other.

Ah, I see. I've seen some in the wild before, but I never thought to pick them up. I do agree that the original PS1 Dualshock controllers are decently heavy, compared to others. I've also noticed that the PS2/PS3 controllers got lighter over time. Maybe the control stick they used with the PS2/PS3 is somewhat lighter?
