On a side note, how long do people expect their WEGA CRTs to last? I get the impression that the people I got mine from left theirs on 24/7 in the background since they got it back in like, 2004.

Amen, I have a Panasonic Tau HD CRT, my parents paid like $1200 for it back in 2004. Its perfect for the Ps2/Wii/Gamecube era games. The 480p is a sight to behold.

Concur, a HD CRT displays sooo much better versus a SD CRT. Have not seen the Panasonic HD CRT for a side by side comparison, but the WEGA HD (not SD) CRT is my favorite for Retro and HD Consoles as well. A shame the HD CRT (especially the 4:3 models) only was around for a few years before less expensive to ship to the stores LCDs came out.

The WEGA do have an issue with the power detection chips, there are other models that have a similar issue. This adds to the annoyance that the last of the CRTs with nice flat glass on the tube (especially the HD tubes) also have the bdumb "smart chips" that fail due to the power curve just a little off when the Degauss kicks at the startup.

I recently had my SD 32 Phillips fail, but it might be either a fuse or an easy resister desolder and resolder of a replacement. Same principle, the component is marginal and eventually fails at the degauss. As in the Wega twenty dollar repair, I'll post info if my fix works.

I must say that the 240p older stuff looks much better on my SD Trinitron than on the Panasonic HDCRT, the image looks a bit smeary without the scanlines, but not bad.

Definitely bring a friend. I've got a Trinitron, and it's heavy! Something like 168 lbs. Very manageable with two people, and make sure to wear some leather gloves, makes it easier to grip at the bottom without hurting your hands.

I currently have a 27 inch Trinitron and have had 3 other various models and sizes and EVERY one of them has horrible geometry issues. I prefer my 32 inch RCA TV from the EARLY 90'S I have had for 10 years. It has zero geometry isues UNlike every sony I have got my hands on. Do I have bad luck? Either way I stay away from Trinitron TV's now. Monitors I have had no issues with.

Mine has major geometry issues too that I only seem to make worse when fiddling with the service menu... but somehow I got so used to it that I don't even notice. Only really noticeable with straight lines either way.

I had a 32 inch Trinitron for a little while, it had blurriness issues that would not go away no matter how much I played with the settings. I ended up getting a 2004 24ish inch Sylvania that turned out to be so noticeably better for SD video that I moved my PS2 over from the Sony WEGA. ATM, while it's on the small side, it's as good as I'm going to get for retro consoles.
