I love Tetris but haven't played many versions.

Game Boy is probably my favorite.

Those Grand Master ones look interesting. Were they ever released in the US?

Any thoughts on the CD-I, Amstrad CPC, Sharp X68000, or Tandy Color Computer ports?

Yes. They were released for incredibly obscure home computers, and only weirdo collectors would care anything about them.

That's one of the wonders of Tetris. You only have to like one port of the game to be a superfan  .

I like the US licensed NES game, mostly because it has more personality to it (for me anyways). I love the crazy color schemes for each level and seizure inducing flashes when I get 4-lines at once. And when I'm done, I want to see crap fly across the screen while the fanfare plays
Also am nostalgic playing to Nutcracker music.

Game Boy version is a close second.

Of the versions I've played, I like the gameplay of Tetris DX the best, although the original Game Boy Tetris has the best music. I just got a DS, so I'm looking forward to trying Tetris DS as well.

The most annoying thing for me in the newer versions is the ghost, but at least it seems like it can always be turned off.

The Apple II version was the hardest of the versions I've played, because the pieces were rendered in a non-square aspect ratio.

I've recently discovered co–op mode in Tengen Tetris and it is oh so rad. Plus the "Bradvinsky" or whatever music is awesome.

One thing I don't get is although it's co–op, P1 and P2 have seperate scores. Would be better if they were combined.

This is a tricky one.

On one hand; I absolutely love the original Game Boy release, because of it's soundtrack, and the addictiveness of it.

On the other hand, though (and this is going to be one of those, "I'm probably the only one that thinks this" opinions), I absolutely love the challenge in Tetris Plus for the Saturn/PS1. It makes you think more, compared to the other games. And it even comes with the original, if you're not a fan, for any reason. So you're really paying $5-$15 (depending on the system) for 2 games, instead of 1.

The NES version is also pretty solid as well. Kinda sucks that they removed the soundtrack, though.

Tetris Worlds for Gamecube/PS2/Xbox is a meh one. It's fun, but...It feels different, compared to the others.

Tetris Party Deluxe for Wii is awesome, though. I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet. It has a lot of cool extra modes you won't be able to find in any other Tetris game. :D
This user really likes SEGA Saturn. Avoid at all costs.

Tetris DS is the best by merits. I didn't play it much. Tetris The Grand Master is the compo choice. It's very hard. Tetris for GBC is very good. I'd argue it's the best but I still consider Tengen Tetris on NES to be the best simply because it's game play and simplicity are really solidified.
If you want addons, NYet 1, 2&3 for dos were really well made and were my go-to choice for a long time. I also played the hell outta Quatris 2.

There's an old topic about favorites that's relevant here:

I've probably put the most time into the GB Tetris, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Tengen version. The cute girl on my block had a copy and it gave me an excuse to play Tetris and hang out with her. :P

Great post! I was recently looking over used copies of Tetris Plus and Tetris Worlds, which is what prompted this thread. I was hoping someone would have something to say about the two of them.

^ tried Tetris Plus and didn't like it.

Bobmbliss on gameboy has an awesome soundtrack and I like it almost as much as tetris. Sometimes I play it just for the music. That and the screen clearing explosions you can set up.
