Together Retro: Space Harrier

Holy crap. That's on Sega Classics Collection, isn't it? Totally forgot. Looks like I have three versions to try out.

Played some on TG16 this evening. I am terrible. The "flying into the screen" perspective is rough. Everything happens so fast. I just end up trying to avoid enemies while shooting blindly.

Three lives. No continues. Of course.

I dig it though. And the music is awesome. I just need a ton of practice.

Reminds me a lot of Burning Force. Another awesome game that I haven't come close to completing. Guess I should say that Burning Force reminds me of Space Harrier.

I took the Master System version for a very quick spin tonight. Made it to stage 3 before dying like a chicken.

This version is kinda choppy, which takes some adjusting since I'm used to the arcade. On the other hand, it sometimes made it easier to dodge.

I gave the game a quick whirl on Sega Mega Drive collection on 360 last night. I still think it's not very fun. I don't think I'll be joining in any more this month.

This is one of those games that I love but don't actually own in any shape or form apart from on Shenmue. Sadly my Dreamcast is lovingly packed away (in original packaging) at my mums house

1 credit, c'mon and catch me! Lucasia (Stage 7) is where I was mortally wounded flying into a one-eyed mammoth. Also, I love the bonus stage where you fly around on a fuzzy centipedish-marmot of some sorts.

Playing the arcade version now. Unlocked it on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Had to play Super Thunder Blade for a bit to do so.

(Can be talk about how friggin' terrible that game is sometime? Because holy shit.)

Anyway, the original Space Harrier is infinitely better than the TG16 port. The way it sucks you into the center of the screen is kind of odd though.

Soundtrack sounds splendid.

Surprised to see it has respawn continues, as opposed to checkpoints or 1cc-or-gtfo or whatever. May end up credit-feeding my way through this eventually because I'm shameless.

I still have the Sega Ages PS2 version to check out.
