I have quite the disaster myself. All my consoles plus three switch boxes and an XRGB are set up between two towers of shelving and it's a massive collection of cables. I'm planning on doing something better with organization once I replace the current shelving with a newer, nicer setup that will put some of them over the TV as well.

The big problem is that this shelf has an open back, making it almost impossible to hide these wires unless I trace them along the cross boards some how. The Velcro wraps did work in certain situations, but with each console having atleast 2 cords going in different directions, they become difficult to use.

You can tack or glue velcro strips to the back of the frame. Its cheaper than a cable tray, and just as effective. Or you could wire it to where each slot has a power outlet and an AV hookup. But that's a boat load of work.

I use two televisions + two TV stands. Not ideal for everyone, but it alleviates some of the problem. Can't imagine if I tried to hook everything to one TV.

I have a similar set up to you, (AV receiver to switch between consoles all outputting to 1 TV/projector using an IKEA Expedit shelving unit) and have exactly the same issue. I was thinking of painting a large piece of hard board and tacking it to the back of the unit and core drilling a 30mm diameter hole to each shelf. I have not got round to it yet and not sure whether it would be better to do individual panels attached with Velcro or not?

The only problem I can forsee is overheating newer consoles but I guess you could put your newer consoles on top of the unit.

Good luck

I'm only going to get one of the new consoles and put it up top. People have suggested the back board idea to me too, but I do have the time or money to measure all of that up and get it cut. I'm still brainstorming what's gonna be best for this set up.

First off I like that setup, like a collage of gaming history! I think the best option for you is to use Velcro straps to keep each console cords separate. It will take some time, but it will also be worth it in the end.
