Unfortunately, there is very little information to help. Modular cable is just a fancy way of naming a regular phone cable. So, we can assume the "modular" label on Unreal means you can use the phone cord to hook up the DC to the internet. But the back of Unreal also says "modem" and in fact is the only game to have both modem and modular symbols (I think!). Why have both?

The problem is that most of these online-enabled or versus-enable games on the DC have no information present in the manuals. Who knew that Rayman 2 had downloadable goodies? Almost nobody, and I believe the back of that game also says "modular"; although I don't own it and can't check.

Some people (crazy friends with nothing to do) have speculated that Unreal says "modular cable" because you can actually hook up several Dreamcasts and monitors for LAN play. I have never seen or heard confirmation of this.

I tend to think that Unreal was released in the earliest days of online play, and so the publishers didn't really know how to announce that fact on the box. So, in the case of Unreal, they decided to mark it as being both modem compatible and modular cable compatible. In reality, you need both to get it online and so having both symbols on the back is kind of a waste of space, but maybe they wanted it to look more important.

Just my thoughts, anyone who actually knows...please fill us in!
