Its currently listed for $9.99 and from what I've read thats how much the Wii kit cost as well before the price gouging.Ziggy587 wrote: How much was the U cleaning kit on the Nintendo Store? I still can't get the site to load.

Never use Isopropyl alcohol to clean a plastic lens. This would be fine though.Shogun wrote:I'm thinking I will just open the wii up and use some Isopropyl to clean the lens.

In case the cleaning does not work, a replacement laser only cost me ten bucks shipped. The changeout which is in depth was done in 2012, the Wii still working fine. An entire replacement drive is only twenty bucks. Either hardware fix keeps your locked to console saves and downloads intact.

Was it a myth or fact that games like this and smash bros that were double density type discs are much harder for the Wii to read and is known on some systems just not wanting to behave right or just load. I know the launch one I had would grind and moan a lot when I had those two but they did run.
Re: Bought a used Wii - It won't play Mario Kart Wii
Mixed info, but I think the dual layer discs would be more of a "workout" for any disc reader having to differentiate the two layers. A sign of a laser assembly going bad when the dual layer discs sometimes would not boot. Similar issue with the writable over pressed discs, the laser has to work harder.Tanooki wrote:Was it a myth or fact that games like this and smash bros that were double density type discs are much harder for the Wii to read and is known on some systems just not wanting to behave right or just load. Re: Bought a used Wii - It won't play Mario Kart Wii
Not a myth, I remember when Brawl came out in Japan there was a big fuss because so many gamers over there couldn't get the dual layer game to run on their Wiis. The primary reason is that so many Japanese people smoke in their tiny apartments and the smoke condenses on everything including their Wii laser lens. The occluded lens obscured the laser too much to have enough penetration power to reach the second layer of a dual layer disc. Nintendo's answer was to start selling the lens cleaning kit.Tanooki wrote:Was it a myth or fact

I actually went the lazy route and got Mario Kart Wii to play off a thumb drive. Problem solved!
I didn't realize gamecube games on a Wii can only be played with a GC controller. I'll have to go get two of those.

Re: Bought a used Wii - It won't play Mario Kart Wii
Well yeah, when it goes into the gc mode it basically shuts out the wii system and boots as if it's a gc to some extent. Meaning it'd not recognize wii motes...(honestly the gc controller is 10x better anyways sometimes even for wii games if only I had some that would play nice with itShogun wrote:I actually went the lazy route and got Mario Kart Wii to play off a thumb drive. Re: Bought a used Wii - It won't play Mario Kart Wii
I had a similar issue as this with a PS2 mini (or whatever it's called) and God of War 2 back in the day. I was at the last boss fight and once I would get him down to a certain amount of health the game would freeze. It would do this every time. The system was brand new as was the game. I returned the game and brought a new one home and it did the same thing. Then I returned the system and tried again on a new system and it worked. For some reason the PS2 didn't like that part of the game. Weirdest thing I've seen yet with an electronic failure.
On a side note: I've been playing Diablo 3 on PS4 so much that I broke the L2 button on my controller. I'm going to send it back to Sony tomorrow for a replacement since it's still under warranty. I've never worn a controller out, nor have I ever worn a mouse or keyboard out.

It's a Wii. Just hack that thing wide open and burn yourself another copy of Mario Kart.
