Are the coloured N64 consoles rare? I have that exact console that I bought on a clearance at my local K-mart when the GC came out and they had like 20 of the things.vlame wrote:nice rare 64 you got there.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.
How large is your TV? I recently played some old Genesis games on my friend's monster TV and they looked like crap. On my old 19 inch or current 27 inch they still look fine. An older system on a large TV does not translate well in my opinion.
If you aren't happy with how your N64 looks, don't fire up your Saturn. I've been again playing Panzer Dragoon Saga on my Saturn and while it is still an outstanding game, the graphics have not aged well, especially in light of what is possible nowadays. I'll even go so far as to say that the Saturn graphics looked better on my old 19 inch than they do on my current 27 inch. You can only stretch a lower resolution so far before it begins to look blocky and chunky.

The pics where taken on a 32 inch but i normally use my 27 inch tv for most gaming.
EDIT: Tried it again on my 27inch and it looks ok i guess. I think i have been playing far to many 360 games on my LCD Monitor.
Not really much else i can do to test. Guess i could goto a thrift shop and buy a junker and see what it looks like on that.

I found I can affect the look of my older games on my bigger (27 inch) TV by messing with the TV's picture controls. The "detail" or "sharpness" setting on my TV can have a great deal of impact on how the graphics look. The higher the setting, the more chunky and pixelated they look. Personally, I think toning down the sharpness/detail setting just a bit helps soften the edges just a bit so the edges don't look so jaggedy (sp?).
But after playing a high power modern system on a high resolution TV or monitor, it does take some getting used to moving back to an older system, especially an early 3D capable system (N64, Saturn, PS1). Focus on the game play and not the graphics I guess! That's exactly why I recently acquired an N64 too, so I could play Super Mario, Legend of Zelda OOT and Legend of Zelda MM and why I'm rediscovering my Saturn and games like Panzer Dragoon Saga. These games are just too good to miss just because the graphics don't look photo realistic.

Well i do realize that older systems don't look as good as new ones. I just don't remember turning on my last N64 and immediately saying "Why does it look so shitty?" LOL
Guess im gonna have to buy another one to see. I payed $75 (shipped) for this one and the game because they are pretty mint. So this will make it about $100

I finally got my N64 yesterday. Maybe it's the Sega fanboy in me, but I find the N64 graphics pretty lame. Wasn't this supposed to be a step beyond the Saturn? My Saturn puts out a better picture than the N64. But then the N64 was pretty low on texture power and it shows.
The games I have look like they will be fun, but the fuzzy, low texture graphics will take a little getting used to. BTW, this is the first Nintendo machine I've ever owned, I've owned most everything Sega and the PS1 and PS2, never a Microsoft product.
In short and in response to your initial question, I'd say it's the nature of the N64 that's the issue, not that your particular machine is faulty.
