(no US sequel, though part of the Japanese Dragon Slayer series)
Have you played Legacy of the Wizard? That's Dragon Slayer IV and it was released in the States. You can find it these days for like $4.
I have played Legacy of the Wizard, but I didn't know it was also a Dragon Slayer game. It's really different from Faxanadu. huh. I know little about that series. I'm not surprised that you have the expertise though. 8)

Crystalis would make a great candidate for a back-from-the-grave sequel. I almost put Shadowgate on this list, but then I remembered it just came back from the grave with a new sequel/remake.

dsh with the funny

Gumshoe was a neat idea hampered by the tech. Something like that might work with modern motion controls/light guns.

Blaster Master does have sequels. They all look horrible.

Oh yeah! The Immortal! I forgot about that one. I remember staring at pictures of the Dragon from that game in a Nintendo Power and I was just dying to play it for months and months until a kid up the street got a copy and let me borrow it. I remember it being a pretty fun game, but I haven't played it in over 20 years.

Jackal is another great choice. I only ever played the arcade version, but I liked it a lot.

Like Bone said later, Blaster Master had a sequel on the Playstation. It could be best described as "a game I tried to like out of sheer love for its predecessor." It's pretty bland and the 3D graphics look utterly terrible by today's standards.

First, Shadow of the Ninja is awesome. You should all play it.

Second, Blaster Master has many sequels, including:

Blaster Master 2 (GEN);
Blaster Master: Enemy Below (GBC);
Blaster Master: Blasting Again (PS1); and
Blaster Master: Overdrive (WII).

There is also Blaster Master Boy (GB), but that is just a re-skinned sequel to Robo Warrior (NES)...much like Ninja Gaiden Shadow (GB) is a re-skinned sequel to Shadow of the Ninja (NES). :wink:

There were actually three Dragon Slayer games on the NES (well, NES/Famicom - one of them stayed in Japan).

Xanadu (spin-off to Dragon Slayer II) and Legacy of the Wizard (Dragon Slayer IV) are both awesome.

Romancia (Dragon Slayer III) on the Famicom is hilariously difficult and obtuse.

There are a couple of other old-school Shadowgate games: Beyond Shadowgate for the Turbo CD and Shadowgate 64 for the, uh, Nintendo 64.

Isn't there a Game Boy Shadowgate as well, or is that just a port?

Even the japanese price for that one hurts a little to look at. That one might be the one where i break my code of honor I've been trying to do and play it without buying it in openemu...

Luckily it did get an English Scandinavian release:

This was actually a port of the Amiga original, it's not really a "NES" game exclusively. It's true this game never got a sequel on any platforms though, despite being ported widely.

That was a remake. It's an excellent remake though and well worth playing. It's also the first Shadowgate game I ever beat.

As for this thread...as long as we don't start getting everyone asking about top 10 lists again, I'm cool with this.

And I would have liked to see a sequel to the Bucky O'Hare video game.

Also, Destiny of an Emperor needs a port. Come on, Capcom!
