I've not played the newer ones, but I've not been impressed by what I've seen. They look like good games, but don't seem to really play much like the SNES ones.

Well that's probably what you get when 3d takes over to some extent(if that isn't the biggest indicator that i somewhat miss the 2d pixel art age I don't know what is ha ha)

Wow, that clip of the GBA version is an absolute nightmare.

Basically what some others here said, I've never really understood how some can like the others and not the third one. We can all have our preferences, but I too have seen the third get a ton of crap over the years for whatever reason.

I do think it's a slow start and don't like the first two worlds that much, it's a bit bloated too with all the secrets (but Rare wasn't DK64 crazy here, yet). Those are really my only complaints.

The gameplay is still rock solid, the new concepts are amazing (the barrel mountain stages were awesome, or the purple smoke that reversed your controls, etc haha), the music is still incredible and the levels are oozing with atmosphere. And yeah, all three of them are seriously just some of the best platformers out there in my book.

The original is still my favorite by a long shot, just because I like the simplicity of it, but the bosses are admittedly very boring and pathetically easy compared to the sequels. They're just all amazing. Kind of like the two Returns games, both are incredible for some of their own reasons and it'd be hard to pick a favorite. I'd love to see Retro do one more Returns and bring the Kremlins and K-Rool back.

Favorite music picks anyone? I never hesitate with this one, easy:

I'm pretty bummed Nintendo will probably never get these on the WiiU VC, due to Rare complications. That sounded goofy.

alienjesus: What's wrong with different? You're missing out dude. Just straight up the best 2D platformers I've played since the 16bit era. I am also incredibly picky about the look of newer platformers when sprites were kind of done away with. So many of them look too busy (Sonic Generations) and aren't memorable at all, like I can't picture a single level in my head from that game because it was so overly busy and convoluted. Or you get that 3D look that's just nasty. The Returns games somehow got it right and were also, just like the original trilogy, very dense with the atmosphere. Gorgeous, easy on the eyes, well balanced.

It either says something about how picky I am, or perhaps is a testament to how good they were... I loved them when I am extremely miss with most 2D platformers nowadays.

But dk64 is a amazing game(unpopular gaming opinion I know but I loved it and still wish we got another 3d dk minus the explosive amount of collecting I was fine with the bananas, big ones, and medals but fairy photos was a little much...and honestly of course they're going to change stuff in a port(does no one remember the crystalis port? they changed a lot in that)

The funny thing is, that seems to be the same issue with dk64. Rare has said time and time again, "we have no problem with it, and actually to be honest we don't know why they haven't done it yet". Good thing I have the originals though

I never liked that they replaced Rambi with Ellie. I mean, I can understand that maybe they wanted that new game play element (sucking up and spitting water with the trunk) and you can't have both. But Rambi was always every one's favorite animal buddy. The new game play element of Ellie was fun, but not at the expense of Rambi.

That said, I still love the game.

The DKC trilogy isn't on the VC? I know it isn't on the U (not many games are) but was it pulled from the Wii VC? They were on there once, I know because I gifted them to my brother's Wii for his birthday one year.

Unless they were put back up, I know they were removed at one point for some reason. Were those ports edited at all? I know Rare had their logo everywhere in the games, so that's been my only guess.

What's funny about talking about this game is that I still have the strategy guide(i don't even recall why my dad bought it) for the first one on gba. I don't think I've touched that thing in years except to pull it out of the trash because my grandmother keeps trying to put it and the dk64 one in there for some odd reason...

Your grandmother is obviously a Sega fanboy.

No...she doesn't get video games and just see's it as "the stuff is just clutter". The thing is both me and my dad just need to learn how to utilize our days off. I know that's one of my big problems right now. I keep meaning to play games on those days but i keep putting it off because of the fact i really need to finish cleaning and organizing stuff at my mom's house in my room. And I mean to go over there on saturdays but with working full time now I just forget about it...

I understand that you prefer Rambi and I respect that, but at the same time Ellie's levels are completely different to Rambi's playstyle, so it wouldn't make sense to compare them directly.

I on the other hand missed the snake the most, and FFS wish they stopped using the parrot.
