Have you played Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep? It is probably my mostest favoritest Borderlands thing ever.
No, I didn't buy the season pass until after group play had stopped, so I haven't done anything beyond the chunk of vanilla.

You don't need to do any of the other DLC, but you need to do Assault on Dragon Keep.
