The market will go down once people lose interest/move on to something else. Though the finite supply will keep the rare and desirable titles up in price.

Adjusting for inflation, the majority of SNES games have lost more than 80%+ of their value since the date of their release. Moreover, the average cost of a SNES game has been flat for about a year.

Have any numbers you can give us? What is the average cost of a game?prfsnl_gmr wrote:Adjusting for inflation, the majority of SNES games have lost more than 80%+ of their value since the date of their release. Moreover, the average cost of a SNES game has been flat for about a year.

Re: When will SNES games start going down in price again?
According to videogamepricecharts.com, the average cost of a SNES game is currently $14.08. It was $13.38 in March 2013. I also suspect that the vast majority of the increase in the average game price is due to the tremendous increase in the value of certain desirable games such as Aerofighters, Hagane, Pocky & Rocky 2, Wild Guns, etc. (Interestingly, Earthbound has dropped appx. $50 from its peak, and Ogre Battle: March of the Blakc Queen is actually slightly less now than it was in 2007.) With a few notable exceptions, games in the $1 to $15 range have not increased at all during the past seven years. (For example, Aerobiz was appx. $15 in 2007, ans it is appx. $15 now.)
In short, the cost of buying SNES games has increased only for people seeking to buy the rarest and most desirable games. Building a library of relatively common games is just as inexpensive now as it was seven years ago. (Again, if you adjust for inflation, it is actually less expensive.)

I am from the school of "it will drop back to normal when the fad wears out". Also, you are pricing a lot of people out of the market right now. Once the people willing to pay high prices dwindles then they will see drops in prices to the levels that people who still want are willing to pay.
One thing I have learned is that there are people who legitimately think that since they paid more that theirs is better than yours. I have literally had people tell me they paid 100 bucks for a game worth half of that and be seriously proud of the price they got, to the point of bragging.
Be patient, once all the fools are parted with their money reality will once again rear it ugly head in our hobby LOL. I huge portion of the small game shops will dry up, flea market and Ebay resellers will move on to other things. Think baseball cards, anyone have a local baseball card shop by them. I had three in the early 90's, all gone and I mean long gone now!

This has been one of the most nutorious issues in the retro gaming community for a while. Like evreybody else said, the answer is probably never, or at least not for a while.
The SNES and EA should get together and have a baby made of diamond encrusted money.

Never?
I was looking through some of my eBay wins for SNES games -- in 2008 I was able to get Yoshi's Island for $10, and Super Mario All Stars as part of a SNES lot for about $2-$3

I got Donkey Kong Country 2 complete in box in great condition for $12 a couple years ago. $9.50 for Tetris Attack CIB. Really it's not THAT bad if you know where to look.ExedExes wrote:Never?![]()
