A bit, but the Internet chatter of "Egon died" is a bit infuriating.
I understand that most people relate to Ramis as "Egon", but that's not even the tip of the iceberg.
Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, John Candy, the Belushis, Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, etc... all owe a lot of their success to Rami's brilliant writing and directing. Almost every movie that I hold dear, Ramis had a hand in it.
His comedic style, his directing stlye, his business acumen, all superior. He was relentless at being exactly who he was, and don't know of another director who was always so cocksure. He earned his arrogance, and damned if anyone told him how to do his job. We didn't lose "Egon" today, we lost an entire genre.

Re: Egon has died :(
Isn't that the truth. He was able to pull of films that seemed ludicrous as others tried to copy his formula, to ill effect. Animal House, Ghostbusters, CaddyShack, Groundhogs Day...need we say more? You can and that was just how awesome his work was as writer/director/actor. A truly talented person whether his death is a hoax or not does not lesson the impact he has on film and comedy.Luke wrote:

That is what has passed: the director for Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters I and II, Groundhog Day, Analyze This, National Lampoon's Vacation, along with roles in Knocked Up, Orange County, Airheads, Heavy Metal, As Good as It Gets, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Writing credits include Animal House, Meatballs, Armed and Dangerous, and Back to School. Admittedly he did do some crap, such as Club Paradise, Multiplicity, Year Zero, and The Ice Harvest, but everyone is entitled to a bit of that from time to time.Luke wrote:Retrogamer0001 wrote: I think this is extremely touching...

That's movies starring...oh, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Rodney Dangerfield, Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler, Robin Williams, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Brendan Frasier, Robert De Niro, John Candy, Chevy Chase, Jonah Hill, John C. Reilly, Seth Rogan, Jack Nicholson, Paul Rudd, etc. In some of these cases, he made these folks' careers. And Ramis inspired countless other comics throughout the world.
It's a sad day. The world has suddenly gotten a lot less funny.

Hey, I liked Multiplicity.
But yeah, this is a massive loss. He definitely made his mark on the world.

Yeah, I don't mean those are bad films, they just did poorly with critics or at the box office.TSTR wrote:Hey, I liked Multiplicity.

A friend of mine interviewed Ramis, I believe, somewhere around 2007-2009. I'll see if I can dig up the interview.Ack wrote: It's a sad day. The world has suddenly gotten a lot less funny.
In short he called Ramis "Abrasive, arrogant, snobbish, but 100% genuine". He may have also called him a "prick", but what Ramis did worked. Always on the move, always getting things done the way he wanted them. Again, it worked.
Harold's body of work deserves it's own Criterion Collection. Sometimes it doesn't matter if your boss is a dick, that's only because he/she has an incredible passion for what they do. He put 100% into everything he did (even Multiplicity) and God bless him for doing things his way without compromise*.
Luckily, his work will always be with us.
*well, he actually did hate it when Murray improvised lines. I hope he and Bill made nice before his death. Only Ramis had the stones the size of mountains to tell greats like DeNiro to "Fuck are you doing? Stick to the script".

Fucking awful.Hazerd wrote:Retrogamer0001 wrote: I think this is extremely touching...
Sometimes I wish the Internet had a delete button.
The continued trivialization of his death pisses me off to no end.
