Anyone use Magic Jack? Got some questions

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I saw a way you can port a landline number to Google Voice. You have to port your home number to an ATT GoPhone, then to GoogleVoice.

KrazyJoe, I honestly don't know .... It's really frustrating. They say things like "we need a back up number".

Not true. I have ported my POTS number to Google Voice. There's a $20 fee for porting.
Since the Google Voice documentation states:
No, we currently are unable to port landline numbers.
And it did not work for me when I tried last year, I am inclined to say they do not support it. If yours worked, you are very lucky.

That is a clever workaround. Id go that route.

I just did not have much luck with Magicjack when I tried, but if it is working well for others, chalk mine up as just a random bad experience.

Yours is definitely not random.

Like stated before, they have no customer support. For example, a relative of mine in Europe uses magic jack. They closed her phone because she was "under review". In other words, they basically made her buy another Magic Jack instead of paying the yearly renewal fee.

Anyway, I think I finally convinced these dummies at my home to get rid of the landline.

If for whatever reason we miss the home phone, I can always buy a magic jack or use google voice.

When we got rid of ours I threw $10 into Skype just incase we needed to call someone and cell signal did not work for whatever reason. We have $10 in our Skype account as of last weekend.
