Likely because for most users, HDMI is a viable, preferable option (since it's HDCP compliant/etc).

True. I'm also guessing that PS3's came with HDMI cables opposed to 360's that came with component ables.

PlayStation Component Cables

360 Component Cables

Pretty steep difference. I would think PlayStation cables would be cheaper since you could use them on 2 and 3.

I believe I bought these a few years ago. Could getting a better set of component cables give me better picture?

Wow, that is weird. I bought the PS3 cables for my PS2 about a year back and they weren't that steep in price at all. Guess they shot up recently?

Far as I know, most (if not all) PS3s just included a composite cable in the box (both of mine did anyway). However, all PS3 models can use HDMI, and need to in order to get full A/V functionality out of the console.

Meanwhile, early 360 models didn't have HDMI ports, and the AV port was a new design. The Elite 120GB (which is what I have) did come with a component cable, and an HDMI cable with the audio adapter, etc, but I think most of them just had a composite AV as well.

I'd guess that the compatibility with the PS2 contributed a lot to the demand.
