Mas, why do you even care? You dropped out of the collecting thing sans Dreamcast, and if that's all you're buying you'll probably have that collection completed in no time anyways.
The market isn't ever going back to the way it was 10 years ago. That's flat out just the way it is. Sucks? Sure, but it's not going to change, not any time soon at least. It's an old meme but... deal with it. There's nothing you can do about it anyway aside from dropping out of the whole collector thing.
I'm in this for the long haul, and if that means paying $40 for a good SNES game... oh well. I'll likely get just as much entertainment value out of an expensive retro game as I can any similarly priced current gen game.
Also, people checking prices on their phones aren't necessarily resellers. Sometimes they're just collectors wanting to make sure they aren't being ripped off. Not everyone has the value of every game memorized.

Bingo...because people are assholes.mas wrote:Wow girl gamer you read my mind. But the thing is if everyone stops buying games to drop the prices down some buthead will pay for that price and keep it or flip it and it starts over again.
But it is the reason and theres no real solution to it other then...time. We just have to wait till everyone gets tired of collecting...then swoop in and buy the collections. Or like someone said, wait 10-15 years till gamers start dying from heart attacks via to much junk food and Mt Dew....*says this as I'm on my third dew for today*
Huh...well someone will be happy after i'm gone.
And yes not all resellers are people checking smart phones, I for one use my mom's smart phone to check prices to see if i'm getting ripped off like you said.

People are "assholes" if they take advantage of declining prices to add to their collection, yet in the same post you declare that that's exactly what you plan to do...

Yeah, kinda hypocritical.AppleQueso wrote:People are "assholes" if they take advantage of declining prices to add to their collection, yet in the same post you declare that that's exactly what you plan to do...
"And I have some big time collectors to deal with. Some of which have huge collections but rather then let US OTHER COLLECTORS STARTING OUT have some games, they snatch them up. I just love these people..."
Don't even complain about that. It isn't your right to have games. If someone buys something you want before you, you should should have been there first and not complaining.

I'm just wondering if there's some specific threshold for how many games you can have in your collection before you're not "allowed" to go out hunting for them anymore.

Ah no I meant "people" as in resellers who buy games at that low price, then resell em, spiking prices up again. And then the people who buy at that high price, thus making the price stay high. People buying games at a low price and NOT reselling them arn't assholes, those people are smart. Because their doing what I plan on doing.AppleQueso wrote:People are "assholes" if they take advantage of declining prices to add to their collection, yet in the same post you declare that that's exactly what you plan to do...

Yes, when you have every single game for a system your buying a game for...such as buying an NES game when you have every single game. That means you have more then a "fair" share of games, and you plan on hording to resell at a later date or just to resell right now. I mean...I kinda get collecting oh idk...US, Pal and japanese versions of one game but anything else is just hording the games and not letting other collectors have a chance at buying it.AppleQueso wrote:I'm just wondering if there's some specific threshold for how many games you can have in your collection before you're not "allowed" to go out hunting for them anymore.
Like those people who have ten NES's stacked up on top of eachother (I'v seen pictures and videos of game rooms...I know you people do this). It's fine having an extra one for parts, old systems break down...have a spare. Having ten? No.

Re: Want to ask everyone's thoughts on something
I'm assuming people who collect variants (3 screw, 5 screw, alt artwork, etc) or are upgrading their carts for ones in better condition, etc are also excluded from that.
I've ended up with multiple systems due to buying a few lots here and there, but I don't ever hold onto them for long. Sometimes I just outright give extra carts/systems away to friends.
I also know people who buy up every Genesis console they see in the wild because they feel obligated to "rescue" the system. I don't really "get" that, but eh.
I don't really feel like I can justify begrudging people for flipping games though, especially if those funds go back into fueling their collections. There are people who've managed to fund their entire collection entirely through flipping, and it's hard not to see that as just a 'smart' way of going about it.

The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property.
