I got a good laugh out of this comment.
I just wish that more people would actually realize that their games are worth nothing. Then I could swoop in and get a ton of great games for little to no cost. But sadly we live in an age where someone thinks a banged up copy of Earthbound is 150 bucks.

...anyhoo. I've always wondered what kind of homeowner's insurance these kind of fellas have and what the price tag of covering it annually looks like. I'd be scared to death of fires, natural disasters, and burglars with all the people who know who you are.

Re: World Record Game Room
The trick is not letting anyone know where you live and how much you have. Obviously when Mike decided to go for the record, he knew he'd have to be more careful and protect his investment, which he has done... long before the story broke (this process to confirm the record has been well over a year).
I can certainly speak to the wrong people finding out what you have, I was robbed twice when I lived in Pittsburgh, for my videogames. Hence, it being one of MANY reasons I'll never be living anywhere near that city again. I lost over 7k worth of stuff and the judge, when ARRAIGNING the one thief that got caught in this whole mess, actually looked at me, laughed at my claims/listed values and said "aww did you lose your little toys?" and awarded me $400 (of which I saw $0 to this day), as an added insult to the plea bargain the douchbag got off on.
But I don't wanna go down that off-topic rabbit hole. But yea, when you have a sizeable and valuable collection- make sure it's protected and/or insured.

I mean she probably has a pretty big collection if people want to break in to get at it. That means it would take a lot of time to sift through which he or she doesn't have much of. Maybe I'm just thinking too simply. I just imagine a burglar to go after easier and faster items such as cash, precious metals, Tv's and such.
Re: World Record Game Room
short answer, it was someone who was provided inside information and knowledge about what to take.
Again, I'll save this story for another day/thread, this isn't the thread to expound details on it.
Back to discussing Michael's awesome collections!

"They are worth nothing"
"I want to buy them"
something about these two phrases are incongruent...
If there's a market, there are buyers, and if there are buyers, there is value. That's pretty much the definition of value. The fact that "game collecting" communities even exist by definition means that there is a market and people want to buy them.
Besides, the thing about that original comment is that it wrongly assumes that most collectors are in it just because they want to turn a profit. Nobody starts up a personal collection as an investment, they do it because they love games and enjoy collecting things. If it happens to be worth a lot of money, that's incidental. For some reason, I doubt these fucks would be so judgmental if this guy had a huge vinyl collection or mountains of books.
(Also note that I said "personal collection," clearly getting into the business of reselling without any intention of building a collection for yourself is a different scenario.)
Seriously, do you think this guy has any plans of getting rid of the collection he's slowly built up over the years? I kinda doubt that.
