For some reason, Capcom was compelled to release a port of the original Resident Evil to the DS that nobody knows about. It didn't look very good but all the content was there. I'm not certain what compelled them to put the map on the upper screen either.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Most bizarre video game ports
Pretty much any game released for this little gem:

It included games from popular franchises like Mortal Kombat, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter, Road Rash, Jurassic Park, and more. It even had a Panzer Dragoon game for it. None were good.

I made a swap with my buddy for a DS and that game came with it. It's actually not that bad. They added a few obligatory touch screen events to make it "special". You'd walk into a room and go into first-person mode to fight zombies/crows/hunters by tapping or swiping them and it doesn't always work that great. Other than that it's a pretty solid port though... good enough for a night's entertainment if you've whipped it before. The map being available at all times helped immensely when my memory of the PSX days was failing me.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:For some reason, Capcom was compelled to release a port of the original Resident Evil to the DS that nobody knows about. Back on topic... speaking of Capcom, they tried to milk a bit more out of the original Dead Rising by making a Wii port. Logic would dictate that it should be horribly handicapped compared to the 360 version and it is. They made the mall smaller, took out 3/4 the zombies, removed all photography, put a much heavier emphasis on firearms, used waggle motions to rid yourself of zombies, and (my favorite part) added a bunch of zombie parrots and zombie poodles.

Wow, that C16 port of GnG looks worse than on a ZX Spectrum!
I might as well mention that the Neo-Geo Pocket was poised to have a whole slew of unexpected and rather exciting ports, such as Arc the Lad 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Magician Lord, Mortal Kombat, Sakura Wars, Tekken, and Windjammers (Oh, what I wouldn't give for a portable version of Windjammers)! Here's the full list. Unreleased games are listed at the bottom: http://www.neo-geo.com/pocket/

Putting the map on the top screen let them use the touch screen for knifing zombies.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:For some reason, Capcom was compelled to release a port of the original Resident Evil to the DS that nobody knows about. This is a great topic!
Broken image link, but I can see that it links to the R-Zone page. You just blew my mind man. I had no idea the R-Zone got ports of Daytona, VF or Panzer Dragoon. That's just... wow.winds wrote:Pretty much any game released for this little gem:

I knew about MK, Virtua Fighter and Jurassic Park, but Panzer Dragoon? Really?

Some more weird ones in my eyes:
Dragon's Lair for the C64/ZX Spectrum etc.:

Tekken Advance for GBA:

In addition to the ones already posted, these 'downgrades' from existing arcade versions were really baffling and predictably were also awful from a control standpoint.
