I know people love the stra features in this game (i.e., Splatterhouse 1-3), but I have heard very few people defend the merits of the remake. What do other members think?

The Conduit
Mad World

Anyone agree? Both under the radar in the big scheme of the generation.
I definitely agree with Madworld. That is a love-it-or-hate-it game, and both its defenders and detractors are certainly vocal about their feelings.

I own a copy of The Conduit, but I have not spent much time with it. I know that it is a quality FPS on a system not known for them, but I have not heard many people defend this game.

Again, do any other members have thoughts on this one?

How about Shadows of the Damned, Alpha Protocol, Way of the Samurai 3, or the Darkness series?
I'd second Shadows and Darkness.
I agree with these, and I agree with Asura's Wrath. I will add them to the OP.

So I guess they were only looking at retail releases. There's a TON of digital stuff that came out last gen that can certainly pass for cult classics

Sin and Punishment on Wii sold like crap even when it was a damn good rail shooter in its own right. It feels like an upgrade of the N64 game, but it's different enough to worthily stand on its own.
The Hyperdimension Neptunia games apparently sold well enough for two sequels, yet I don't hear anyone talk about it at all. On the other hand, it might be a bit too niche for popularity amongst the masses (an rpg based on the console wars featuring hot anime chicks).
Also, I second Brutal Legend, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Bayonetta.
Consoles: N64, Wii, Dreamcast, PS2, SNES, Saturn, Genesis, PS3, NES, Wii U, 2600, PS4
Handhelds: Game Boy Advance, 3DS, PSP, New 3DS

Demon's Souls doesn't really belong on the list. It is massively popular and shot a developer that was considered a hardcore niche developer for a good 20+ years prior into the spotlight, and now the Souls games are on their way to contending with Elder Scrolls. Perhaps a cult classic for the year and a half it was stuck in Japan, but certainly not after.

In addition to stuff posters have already mentioned, I might suggest Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Being that most gamers don't really know what Tatsunoko is, I feel like this game was pretty much ignored by everyone other than big Capcom fighter fans. But it has a huge fanbase, and many said Capcom fighter fans will tell you this is one of their best games ever.

Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan is also a huge cult classic, but it's so obscure that it's hard to even talk about because no one knows what it is outside of die hard fans.

Yeah, well, what did you expect from Game Informer?

I personally do not think that any game with a "Greatest Hits" release should be classified as a cult classic...

I think we should limit the ourselves to retail releases just so the list does not get unwieldy.

.....

We have received some great suggestions, and I will update the OP.

I agree with the nods to Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and Sin and Punishment. Both are excellent games. Tatsunoko was unfairly muscled out of the FGC by Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and by some people not seeing it as "legit" because it was on Wii. Their loss.

I would add Child of Eden as a definite and Dragon's Dogma and Spec Ops: The Line as possibles. I think the latter two games sold okay, but not as well as the developers had hoped.

They all have good cult appeal I feel; DD is a western RPG melded with japanese design aesthetics and Spec Ops is probably the most meta-textual game I have played this gen, if not ever. Child of Eden is the successor to REZ (already a cult classic) and one of the most beautiful games of the generation, motion controls be damned!

Great idea for a thread, btw.

Deathsmiles & Bioshock..

There are probably ton's from 7th gen, popular and hidden gems should be included whatever gets people to follow, I would say count as cult classics!
