Yeah the Mame version that I picked up ran great and handled very well. Played through it completely earlier.

you're right about the one-button thing too, Fragems. I've played this on DC in the past and didn't love it. But that offered a unique controller setup where each shot had its own button. The real arcade 1-button setup really adds so much depth to the game, it's unreal. I still contend that Mars Matrix is ugly considering the hardware it was running on, but it's got some great bullet patterns and this 1-button config is def super interesting.

Yes. I really love the depth of the one button dynamic - totally different game. I know you (noise) think it's ugly. --- and not to get on the scanlines soap box, but this game looks and feels better with: one button, dat boss music, deep black space background and scanlines. It isn't meant to be gorgeous (I don't think). It's meant to be an experience. I really love this game. I'm not great at it - but man, I really do enjoy it.

If you really are turned off by the graphics - don't get Fast Striker. It looks really similar to this one and the music isn't as good.

If so, that will spell problems for later picks I am guessing...being able to use MAME or willing to hunt down a PCB should be a practical prereq for participating in the tourney, I would think.

I think it more comes down to: "Yes!, I have this one." to..."Wait, what? I have it and I still have to emulate it? Re-do, pls." So I think that is the other 6 votes.

That said, (option 1) keeping MM is pulling away, up by 4 now, so going to call it good.

^ This.

My thoughts exactly. Although, you guys that have PCBs definitely don't wanna play the console version, so I understand the decision.

Donnie, not sure how yr runnign w/MAME lately, but i've followed EXED and Dunpeal's advice (beginning on page 22 of the STGT thread) and for the first time have it working mostly well. Still have a few bad roms etc, but all the tips they provided (that version of MAME, having the controller plugged in when loading it up, not extracting the rom files, finding the parent rom, setting up the controls right the very first game, etc) has made all the difference. There are still a few games that my PC can't handle or otherwise seem a tad off or slow, but by and large, they're playing nicely.

I haven't had many problems, other than a bad Progear rom I downloaded. Never had an issue with getting a pad to work or anything like that. I just prefer to reserve mame for stuff that only was accessible in the arcades. Plus, my PC is a tiny Netbook. :x

I'll be sure to hit someone up if I encounter any glitches, though.

Another vote for keeping Mars Matrix.
