Well the top bit of wall is more or less because the kitchen has crown molding. I could just remove it all together, but the lack of crown molding in the foyer would probably look a bit off and I don't really plan on putting any in there. That and it will require me putting drop down on the ceiling where I cut out the wall...Ivo wrote:Why the brown thing on the right of the picture, and indeed why leave a bit of the wall on the top part (is the ceiling not enough as a top boundary)? It seems to me more space on the "gap" would be better, so just leave a bit of wall on the left of the pic, and of course the bottom part. But you may have good reasons to leave extra parts there (and in the case of the brown bit, put something new there?)
Ivo.
I think with that top bit there it will give a nice boundary feeling to the kitchen so that it doesn't feel as much as the bathroom, bedroom and hall closet are parts of the kitchen.
The brown bit on the other hand is basically just like a post dealy right there. Something small and decorative (that's why I have it a different colour, doesn't mean it will be brown). Again allowing for some boundary to the kitchen, but still open it up enough that it brings light into the hallway. What it comes down to is when I cut out the whole thing I'm gonna see what it looks like with or with out that bit. If I think it makes it look to cluttered, I'll probably not even put it there and drop the light switch that is there down on the to the right of it (it's the light switch for the kitchen light).
Once it is done I'll take pics of course. I've first gotta finish the outside though, I'm dead in the middle of residing the house, putting in new windows and doors, putting up a fence, new lamps, painting the driveway, and hurricane shutters. I bought this place for 130 grand (got it for 40K less then it was worth from my sister) and I want to get the value up to over 200K.
