I grabbed a copy of Gaiares about a month ago and i've been popping it in every now and again. Gorgeous, fast paced (almost to the point of nausea at times, ha) a great soundtrack and really neat option system.
Too bad I can't still can't reliably beat the second level.

My Megadrive gaming is going outstandingly fantastically, thank you!
I recently acquired an excellent original Japanese HAA-2510 model console which performs excellently and has great stereo sound. I'm running with via RGB Scart through a SLG-in-a-box from ArcadeForge and I get a great picture with scanlines included!
I'm developing my shmup collection, with Curse, Hellfire, Gynoug, Elemental Master, Thunderforce III & IV, Darius II and Gaiares obtained so far. I hope to add Insector X and Steel Empire to it soon.
Using a Sega ASCIIWare Mega Stick to fight my way through hordes of alien invaders of various races.

Damnit, do I I want Thunder Force IV, Elemental Master and Gynoug.
I was playing my Mega Drive pretty heavily up until just recently when I switched to Saturn gaming. Now my focus is on my Saturn games, but before that happened I played through Phantasy Star II, and Rockman Mega World. Before that, I was really enjoying Light Crusader, but got stumped by two of the puzzles in the second floor. No one seems to like to talk about that game, but other than the isometric view, I think it's a fantastic Treasure game.
I also picked up The Story of Thor a while ago (complete with pin badge and foam holder, making Eiyuu Densetsu and Eiyuu Densetsu II the only Mega Roleplay Project games I need to complete the set) and it should be the next thing I throw into my Mega Drive. I've been pretty excited to start playing that game, and the Saturn Sequel, but I'm pretty dead set on finishing my Summer Game Challenge at the moment.

Had to YouTube Light Crusader. Looks pretty good!
One of the first games I got with my old Megadrive (first time round) was The Immortal. Light Crusader looks far superior to that!
I didn't play many adventure games on the MD though, to be honest so I'm not a good judge!

I don't care what anyone says, that game is hard as diamond (and just as shiny).
I've been trying to beat Assault Suit Leynos, I never did so without cheating (the extra continues cheat doesn't count that's a bloody necessity).
I usually get to about the 6th mission if I'm lucky before I have to throw in the towel.
I beat Monster World IV on Xbox Live recently, beautiful little game. It's really unfortunate it wasn't released over here back in the day, especially since they apparently had the English version ready to go.
I also recently acquired Trouble Shooter and an English repro of its sequel that I've been meaning to play through. Along with Whip Rush, Vic Tokai had some killer shmups on the console.

Way better than The Immortal, not as good as Landstalker.
Light Crusader is a Treasure game believe it or not though it's not their usual style at all.

I honestly think that stage 1 in Gaiaeres has the best soundtrack of any game of all time, and its a good thing because that game is brutal and your going to be seeing stage 1 ALOT

Re: How's Your Sega MegaDrive/Genesis Gaming Going On?
All this talk of Gaiares had me playing it a bit yesterday. Didn't get beyond level 2. The furthest I've been is the level 3 boss. Might play a credit or two today...

Great soundtrack, but it's still got nothing on Lords of Thunder (another great shoot-em up). I've only played the TG-CD version via the Wii Virtual Console, so I'm not sure if the Sega CD version sounds just as good or not. But that game is accompanied by one of coolest instrumental metal soundtracks with guitar riffs galore.

Re: How's Your Sega MegaDrive/Genesis Gaming Going On?
I put my pathetic Saturn and Dreamcast collections up in the other threads. So I figured, why not my Genesis collection? I'm actually proud of this one! I got some real gems in my Genesis collection, IMO. I know I'm a missing a few "essentials", like Castlevania, Contra, and a couple Shinobis. I'll get em, one day.
Here's what I do have:
