Oh, was Controller Pro support confirmed? I've heard that there's a patch for NSMBU for Pro support. I haven't read much into anything, just been drooling at the trailers.
Cronozilla wrote:It looks good. There's a lot to look forward to that's in it. It does look like it's doing a lot of different stuff from the one on Wii.

I'm not really excited to play it, though. I'll get it, it'll be played at some point, but it's nothing I'm chomping at the bit for.

I do find myself feeling pretty excited to play Super Mario 3D World, though.
I might be just a tad more excited for it then you, but yea, it's not the top three games I'm excited for that was announced. Mario 3D World is definitely top 3!

It's gonna be great fun though, for sure!

If the "major" Mario installments are Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 & 2, Mario 3D is not one of the major installments. It's in the same category as NSMB. Super Mario 3D World will just be a console version of the handheld "Land" game, just like how NSMB was on DS then NSMB Wii on the Wii. We will eventually get the next major Mario installment on the Wii, but 3D World isn't it, and it wont be a Galaxy game.

But to not derail the thread... DKC Tropical Freeze looks great. The only thing, it looks like when you're playing single player, Diddy and Dixie will just be more like "power ups" for Donkey the way Diddy was in DKCR. I would rather have it like the way it was in the SNES DKC games. I think there was a lot of people that didn't like that about DKCR.

I dunno, but it can't get any worse than the Wii controls. Those were downright assholian.

I didn't have a problem with it, and I'm not even a fan of motion controls. In fact, I opt not to use them whenever possible. But, wasn't there a patch made for DKCR to enable Classic Controller support? And the patch came out a short time after the game was released.

Every game should ALWAYS have the option for Classic Controller / Controller Pro support. There's no excuse. I know basically nothing about writing code and whatnot, but don't tell me it's a difficult thing to implement.

It depends on if you wrote it in a way that it could even be changed (you'd be an idiot not to). But, I think if it wasn't in the codebase when the game shipped, the issue is not technical capacity, but financial and resources in releasing patches for the games.

I imagine Nintendo's environment is more friendly, but in general, if you're on like Xbox ... it's almost $10K to put ANY patch out.

Which means if you want to patch your game and not lose buckets of money, you have to set up your own update servers and things like that ... and it's a big song and dance. So when stuff like that is missing it's not usually technical competency it's usually platform bureaucracy.

To follow up what I said about DKCTF ... I am actually looking forward to it more than I was looking forward to DKCR when it was first announced. It does look like they're changing up the play formula, which I like.

Yeah, Super Mario 3D World actually looks really good. Every time I look at it I kind of want it more. I loved 3D Land, I hope this is better (and longer), and it certainly has it's downsides, but I agree that I don't think this is a replacement for the next evolution of adventure Mario ... it's just something fun and good to fill out the library and get people buying and could be made faster than a full re-imagining of Mario. Part of that console-critical-mass idea.

And, I think, yeah that's probably a good thing, honestly. Instead of seeing Mario every 5 years in his own game, we'll see a Mario platformer of some kind every other year. Which isn't such a bad thing. I know a lot of people express annoyance because they feel like it's beating a dead horse or it's just utter stagnation ... and I agreed a bit until I played New Super Mario Bros. U and just felt like that game was a really fantastic, true, Mario Bros. sequel. It really is a solid game, and I hate the idea of people tossing it in some junk pile because they think it's just filler shlock. It isn't. I actually think New Super Mario Bros. 2 on 3DS would be more guilty of that ... and even that is a good game. So there's some evidence that Nintendo may be revisiting the familiar ... but they're also expanding what those games are. Just because something says "Donkey Kong" or "Super Mario" on it doesn't necessarily mean it's the same thing you've always played. As long as I pop it in and I not only like it, but I feel like it's rejuvenated ... then I'm good, and I'm happy with what they've done.

... As long as it's just what's in between the "next stage" sort of releases.

I didn't see anything wrong with the DKCR controls at all. They felt fluent and responsive to me.

I grew up with the original DKCs and loved them. After demoing DKCR and hating the controls, I decided to skip that one. This new one looks great, so as long as they fixed the controls and there is no waggling involved, then I'll pick it up. Otherwise, I'll stick to playing DKC/DKC2 for my SNES.

Maybe you guys would like the 3DS version of DKCR better? I'll be giving it a try sometime.

DKTF looks great and fun, but I was excpecting something more. We just got DKCR and it was just ported to 3DS recently. But I'm looking forward to this more than the port of 3D Land.

Port of... Mario 3D Land? Super Mario 3D World is not a port of the 3DS game. It's a brand new game.

I was joking. I know its not a port. But it sure as hell looks like one. Was expecting another installment in the 3DMario series. This doesnt count.
