Most of the time, no, just the film. I rarely buy movies now unless they are at a great price or they are just an excellent film. While I enjoy behind the scenes stuff, Ive moved passed watching it for most movies.CRTGAMER wrote: As for movies, do the digital versions have all the Special Features that Collectors Editions discs offer?

Then feel free to find another thread on it and request it be merged. I honestly didn't feel like searching.CRTGAMER wrote:Say are there like a 1000 threads on this subject already?
Physical copies for both games and movies for me. I like the idea I can still pop in a 30 year old game and not worried if it will need an update or online connection in order to play. As for movies, do the digital versions have all the Special Features that Collectors Editions discs offer?
Sometimes special features are available. Most often not. When I was in collector mode I really wanted more special features. But how often did I watch them? Extremely rarely. Now that I'm losing my collect it's edge I don't care so much.
For my favorite games and anime I'll probably still get some figures it there are ones I like. But that's about it for collecting.

And Wii U/Wii. Nintendo has the absolute worst digital policy. If your system breaks- you are screwed. You'll basically rely on hoping that the Nintendo employee that you call has sympathy on you and gives you some of your games back.mjmjr25 wrote:If you break your 3DS - don't you lose all those games you paid for?
Hopefully they'll get that account system in place soon.
Xbox One- Yeah, I'm interested to see how they handle the "selling" digital licenses to whoever those participating retailers are. We'll see how it turns out.ZenErik wrote:Price isn't my concern. Sure I can't resell, but all the games I have gotten digitally so far are ones that I have already played for a good amount of time and greatly enjoy. I don't feel like I'm going to sell MH3U ever considering I've already put 80 hours in and will be putting in 200 more, most likely.
The fact that I can't resell is even a good thing in some ways. I am more likely to be cautious about what I buy and less obligated to feel like I NEED to buy day one for pre-order bonuses.
Will I end up buying a digital game I dislike and cannot resell eventually? Definitely. This is where the Xbox One policy actually can be good. Though I have no plans to purchase one day one I may eventually.
Don't get me wrong. There are definite downsides to digital downloads, but I no longer want all this clutter. And I don't want a wall of physical media.
Digital games- Hey if the price of digital games and the lack of freedom that comes with them does not bother you, then more power to you. I'm not denying that there aren't any positive aspects to digital games, but the cheap bastard and game collector in me keeps me from going digital. I like the freedom to sell a game that turned out to be crap and I like saving money buying used games. Heck, I bought the three Modern Warfare games for under $35 from ebay. Unless I caught a special sale on PSN/steam/whatever I would have had to pay full price buying digital.
I know I'm not alone in how I feel, but I also know that you're not alone either. But it really is disheartening to know that a hobby of mine is eventually going to change for the worse; taking away part of what I love about it.

I can't fondle my games if they're digital.

I can't do digital copies of music and movies, as there's a loss of fidelity that I can't abide. I'll happily have a digital copy in addition to my hard copy, but I want the best version possible to best experience the media and digital versions of these simply aren't equivalents.
For newer games, I can go either way and usually opt for whichever is cheaper (usually the physical on consoles and handhelds, digital on PC). Even then, I am starting to appreciate having a lot of digital game content in one place (e.g. on the Vita) and not having to swap discs/cards/etc.

Well, there are Nintendo Network IDs. So while purchases are still, I think, system bound, I am sure there are solutions if your system breaks. 3DS I am not sure. They most definitely KNOW which games I purchased as they have a system and these games are also tied to my Club Nintendo account. I do know that you can transfer eShop purchases from 3DS to 3DS IF BOTH SYSTEMS ARE WORKING. But if the system isn't.. Like I said, not sure. I guess it's just a risk I am willing to take at this point.Opa Opa wrote:And Wii U/Wii. Nintendo has the absolute worst digital policy. If your system breaks- you are screwed. That said, I still own at least 4 3DS physical games that aren't on the eShop. And a good bunch of 360, PS3, and Wii games. And Dreamcast and PS1.
I've been getting digital music for months but it was only a few weeks ago that I decided to do the same with books and movies/TV. And a few days ago that I decided to go all in and do games as well. Just sort of hopped to the other side of the fence. For the longest time I ALWAYS wanted a physical copy. But it became time for a change. And that is where I am at now.

Nah, I prefer physical games. The only digital games I have are those that are only available in a digital format. It's the collector mentality, I suppose - and the fact that digital isn't an option for most of my favorite retro consoles anyway.
I have mostly switched over to digital for music though - most of the stuff I'm into is tough to find locally and it's easier just to download.

Re: Anyone else going digital?
I'm all digital on PC for obvious reasons and I like it a lot that way. That said, I'm not entirely convinced on consoles due to the fact that their services likely wont be up for all time. On PC, it's pretty easy to find your game online, even if the original service is pulled. I'm definitely more lenient with PSN though, since they appear to have the best grasp in the console space on digital downloads. However, I still tend to only acquire small games that I can't find physically from them.
I'm not opposed to digital downloads at all. They're often cheaper (on PC) than buying a game for a console in a store. With my current internet connection I can download most games in the time it would take to go get a disc and install it. Plus, the whole not having to deal with swapping discs and wasting time with that is also a plus. I'm just opposed to the way they work on some platforms. If I had my choice they would all be DRM free, or at least let me back them up to an external drive with a form of client side authentication in case something does happen and the service is wiped off the face of the planet.

Older. Not wiser.

As an audiophile I understand what you mean about wanting the highest fidelity. But at the same time it's rare for me to be able to tell the difference between a 256kbps AAC and FLAC. At least with my high end headphones. Perhaps it is a different story with high end speakers. I've tried out various headphone amps as well. Besides the better sound quality, the nice thing about high end headphones is being able to hear so much that is barely in the mix. Pretty cool.dsheinem wrote:I can't do digital copies of music and movies, as there's a loss of fidelity that I can't abide. Vinyl is a different thing, but that suffers from degrading sound quality with each listen. Unless you have a laser turnable for thousands.
With video I am fairly picky as well. Though maybe not as much as I used to be. Color banding, stuttering, and looking generally terrible during dark scenes are things that streams can most definitely suffer from. Stuttering during panning bothers me the most. But overall I've been pretty satisfied with Amazon Instant Video. Crunchyroll, however, has some work to do..
