Can't go wrong with Plants vs Zombies 2. It's got a ton of content and is a great Tower Defence game. It's free but offers in-game purchases, but honestly, if you're a patient person then you shouldn't end up spending a penny.

For a 'retro' style game, I strongly recommend Gridrunner by Jeff Minter. Goat Up, also by Jeff, is also fantastic
