This. Within a reasonable driving distance, I have a Gamestop, a mom-and-pop game store, and a chain retailer called G2K Games. Of the three, I shop at G2K most often because all their NES, SNES, N64 and Genesis games are $5 across the board and their PS1 and Gamecube games are $10 or less. When I go to the mom-and-pop store, some stuff is cheap, other stuff is overpriced (she uses Ebay to price things sometimes), but I like to shop there cause the lady who runs it is a gamer herself and she'll give you a deal if she can. That said, I would love to be one of those guys who hunt games at flea markets for the fun of it, but I can't because there aren't any. Oh well.SpoonyBard wrote:Up in my neck of the woods, I don't really have the luxury of shopping somewhere else. Yeah flea markets are awesome. The four in my area totally make up for the lack of retro game stores.Retrodude wrote:This. I just started really collecting (mostly just finding anything non typical or that I owned as a kid so far) in the last month. Flea markets are a lot of fun however, and maybe it's just my location, you pretty much have to be the first guy to hit up a good booth or its gone. Ill show up no earlier than 8am because I like to actually get sleep, and last week there was already a guy traipsing around asking every booth if they had video games. Only about half the booths were even set up yet. About a half hour after I saw him he had a clear bag with 8-10 NES games in it that I'm sure weren't crap. Later on there were three kids who were very loud about their excitement hunting for games. There's a guy on YouTube that lives within 15 minutes of here. I'm really enjoying myself but I don't know if ill ever get to the level I imagined because I simply have too many hobbies and stuff going on to get up at 5am every Saturday and Sunday, badgering each booth before they even get a chance to set up. If people want to do that it's their right and there's really nothing wrong with it, it just takes the fun out of it for some of us. I realize the early bird gets the worm but Jesus.

That's why I enjoyed The Retro Hunters before they quit doing videos. They didn't care about rarity or value, they were just looking for something cool and more often than not, they found it. Just because the hawks got all the rare stuff before you got there doesn't mean that there isn't anything good left, after all.

In my area there are a lot of resellers but I usually am pretty lucky. For the most part they seem to be to lazy to do any digging, and alot of them seem to stick to spamming ads on Craigslist.Retrodude wrote:That's why I enjoyed The Retro Hunters before they quit doing videos. I can't imagine you get much of any deals showing up before they open badgering them for games. As a seller i'd have to imagine you'd know what they're up to right away. Never hurts to haggle for the stuff they passed up.

Destiny Games? Gamers Ave? ???BogusMeatFactory wrote:Yeah there is a place near here that I like to frequent that has really good prices on hidden gems, but all the mainstream games are horrifically overprices. $70 for a loose cart Shining Force? bah!
$5 for Phantasy Star Online Ep 3 in box with manual? YAY!
Other gripes I have is that they will do a NES pin replacement for $60, but won't sell you the pins to do it yourself. Argh!

Gaah, I hope you are kidding. Is there actually a town that does not have some sort of Swap Meet every Saturday? Maybe even in a neighboring city nearby? At least you should have a few Thrift Stores to hunt thru.Retrodude wrote:I would love to be one of those guys who hunt games at flea markets for the fun of it, but I can't because there aren't any. Re: Classic Game Prices...Questionable.
The nearest flea market is almost 50 miles away and the local thrifts rarely, if ever, have anything game related. There is a local church bazzar (sp?) every summer, though, with funds going towards giving local kids college scholarships. I have found stuff there, but I'm not always able to go. So yeah, I'm pretty much stuck with retail and online shopping.

Re: Classic Game Prices...Questionable.
Well I would like to buy games from the store at the value they are worth, even a dollar or two more is ok, but when you talk 10 to 15 bucks more for a crap game that I want solely for collection is ridiculous. I know Amazon and Ebay exist, but I try to collect solely from in person purchases. It takes the fun out of it to just throw a bunch of money at amazon and get a basically complete collection. Its like supply and demand except there is no real demand, not im my area at least. Im literally the only collecter I know of in my city. So its like they jack up the prices just in case I come in.
