Everyone offering advice to keep it from getting worse while playing it, making a copy, or anything else involving reading data off the disc, reread the red parts 10 times while smacking yourself in the head with Wii controller attachments. Come on people. Time to grieve and move on. It isn't coming back from the dead.BumbleChump wrote:You can see that the silver print is intact on top, but the plastic is cracked. I was hoping that it wouldn't matter since it's the outer part of the disc, but no, it won't play. Then I thought maybe the outer part of the disc is like the region locking section so if the Saturn can't read it, it won't play it. So I tried playing it with an action replay, but no go.

Once more for people that can't read.

a disc only replacement will be cheaper than a new CIB copy, at least.

Well it at least is interesting discussion, just something to ponder about. The OP stated the crack is only in the plastic and not in the silver reflective surface underneath. Though very unlikely, there might be an off chance a disc burner might work. They do offer tighter tracking then the older Saturn disc reader. Again, highly unlikely due to having to overcome reading the data thru the cracks. Its a question of the possible risk of ruining the burner and damaging the game disc further.Hobie-wan wrote:Everyone offering advice to keep it from getting worse while playing it, making a copy, or anything else involving reading data off the disc, reread the red parts 10 times while smacking yourself in the head with Wii controller attachments. And what would be the point of wasting time to maybe read it? If a burner does manage to read it, it will probably be at 1X or slower and need several retries as it struggles past the cracks. Just spend 10 minutes and download an ISO. The end result is still a burned disc. Though we don't know if the OP even has a chip, which would be $40. Maybe burn for now, but look for a replacement loose disc as already brought up.CRTGAMER wrote:Though very unlikely, there might be an off chance a disc burner might work. Just peel the data part off and put it on a donor disc.

I wonder if a BluRay drive would have an easier time reading it ...

Re: Is it possible to fix cracked discs?
Dang, well at the very least, this disc brought us a little joy in some fun discussion as it's last chance to provide any entertainment at all.
I appreciate the suggestions, but it looks like it's just dead.
The sucky part is that I don't even know how it happened. I was bored one day and decided to get all the scattered video games in the house and put them back together. The discs were all over the place, and the Saturn cases were all sitting in the closet. When I found this one sandwiched between a bunch of papers and other discs, it had the crack in it.
On top of that, this game is my sister's. She bought it when it was on store shelves.
And yeah, burning it probably wouldn't help. My computer spins discs insanely fast and loudly.......
Anyhow, getting the Saturn chipped seems like the cheapest way to play this game again. Not that I want to, but if my sister ever does again.

Re: Is it possible to fix cracked discs?
I'd advise away from chipping and playing back ups it takes away from the fun of collecting. Also copy's aren't worth anything if the cd its self is dead sell the case and buy another complete copy or just buy a loose cd and put in back in the case

Re: Is it possible to fix cracked discs?
Yeah, I agree that chipping/getting flash carts kills the fun of collecting, but I've come to realize that I'm never ever going to get a lot of those expensive Saturn games. I don't have the money or time to buy or find those, and I certainly don't want to pay $80 for a game I already had.
