I actually can't play PS1 on PS2 at the moment because I need to get the laser fixed...theclaw wrote:Try a PS1 game with component on PS2 first.
Many HDTVs won't take 240p component.
Basic RGB to component converters let the user add their own upscaler or not.
You aren't tied down to any unwanted features/complexity.

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
Well, every Vizio TV I've tried supports 240p over component.

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
The point is, would RGB -> Component be better than RGB SCART for PS1? Because I've already purchased like two PS1 SCART cables.
And I couldn't get a scaler unless it was dirt cheap.

...if your TV already supports RGB Scart, you don't need that component adapter at all.

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
I see no point in converting RGB to component when the PS2 already has a brilliant component encoder. The result will be the same either way, right?

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
I sure hope it does, as I'm starting to wonder, because on comparing RGB SCART & Composite on GameCube it does seem clearer, sharper & less colour bleedy, but maybe not to an extreme extent. And the supposed RGB SCART cable I do have for PS1 that turned out to be Composite could of been RGB and my TV could of not supported it, so I guess I'll know when I get my new RGB SCART PS1 cable and if it looks like arse.AppleQueso wrote:...if your TV already supports RGB Scart, you don't need that component adapter at all.
Hopefully, so I won't have to replace my current PS2 video out.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:I see no point in converting RGB to component when the PS2 already has a brilliant component encoder. The result will be the same either way, right?

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
Okay so, I've received this information from the best video connections page:
PlayStation 2
Best non-modded solution: VGA via SoG/Blaze/Xploder bootdisk for games that can be forced into 480p
Second best non-modded solution: Component
Third best non-modded solution: RGB
Best modded solution: Universal VGA cable
Nintendo Wii
Best non-modded solution: VGA
Second best non-modded solution: Component
PAL third best non-modded solution: RGB
So would it be worth getting a VGA connection to switch to while playing 480p games and does universal VGA cable mean "works with everything"? And how about that Wii VGA?

Re: PS2 VGA > Component?
Wii doesn't output VGA. Any such cable includes some form of converter.
For either PS2 or Wii a reasonable "works with everything" would mean ability to change 240p or 480i into 480p, and convert 50hz to 60hz.
