Well I suppose you could, but that would be annoying. Give it some time, I'm sure the N64 lockout chip will eventually get cloned. Just like the NES and then the SNES did.

Isn't there only like 1 pal game worth importing for the n64? A tazmanian devil game? Hard to justify a mod for one mediocre game.

very ethnocentric comment; I am a PAL resident whom wishes to get imports..

What about playing games at 17% more speed?

That didn't happen as often though.

Oh, they didn't fix that with the N64? I know that was an issue for SNES games, that a lot weren't properly coded for 50Hz so they just ran slower, but I assumed things changed by the time the N64 came around.

You could get a flash cart. That'll allow you to play almost any game, and any region, on your PAL N64.

Oh they probably did. It was a huge issue with 8-bit era consoles, and early 16-bit era games (Sonic 1 being one of the best examples for the amount of slowdown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1CW8Da8i1o. Though imo the greenhill zone theme sounds better when it's slower :P), but it still crept up from time to time.

Actually the main reason most European retro gamers would tell you to get a US N64 instead of a PAL is that many games were not brought over to Europe, and also the N64 just sold way better in the US so the console and games are cheaper there.

Unfortunately he isn't far off. At its core the US is just that much more gamer friendly.
Our government policies are favorable toward gaming, compared to elsewhere.
Lum fan.
