MOGA and Ipega (iControlPad Alternatives)

I figure if I'm willing to spend $40 on a controller to play a few lame cell phone games, then I should be willing to spend the extra to buy a real handheld, so I didn't buy the MOGA, but now I might consider a 3DS.

I don't really blame you for wanting to go with a 3DS, but I don't think it's fair to say that Android games are lame. There's some good shit out there.

I'm sure you are right. I have only owned a smart phone for a few days now. My initial impression is that I don't like using a touchscreen as an interface for most games. I certainly am not an expert on android games though. I've played Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run, and Fast & Furious 6... that's not a lot of background knowledge or basis for comparison.

After using android devices for about four years, I can assure you the controls get up to the status of "satisfactory". I have never played ANY mobile game (On any of the platforms) and said, "these are good controls"

Got a Galaxy S4 after my S2x got stolen and picked up a steelseries on sale at Futureshop while buying a hard case. It's the bluetooth controller I never knew existed and feel is necessary - the pocketability is awesome. Of course the Sixaxis is much better, and if you can use Sixaxis on your phone then you can also run a WIImote (haven't tried it). The Ipega was great because it turned the phone into a handheld (with it's holding bracket) but the steelseries has much better build quality and default controls. I have not needed to install Bluezime to make a game profile yet on any game - the defaults are already set up properly.

It's been amazing finding out what my new phone can do. PS1 games are amazingly all working, Several good PSP games run at the native 1080P very well, Nintendo DS games are hit and miss, but also working amazingly well considering the overhead, and even some Saturn games run OK. A Samsung 64GB SDXC is all of a sudden very necessary if you want the MAME Reloaded collection on your phone because 1080P videos take up a lot of room.

Touchscreen controls are very well suited to match 3 style games. One of the best control / mechanic matches ever. Beyond that, touchscreens are notoriously bad for traditional dpad style games. Just horrid. There are so many great mobile games I can't enjoy because of that.
