Can SegaCD read CD-RW's?

I remember some project for the Dreamcast where the person was working on loading games from an SD card (or was it a hard drive?). It was different than the SD card adapter for the serial port, IIRC it actually interfaced with the console the way the optical drive does.

Another cool thing is the WiiKey Fusion mod chip for the Wii. It has the ability to load games from an SD card. Some guys so the potential for a portable GCN project and got the Fusion chip to work on the Cube. So, loading games from an SD card on the Cube is already possible. Just takes a little hardware hacking. Some one should make a dedicated Gamecube SD card adapter though, that would be awesome.

I just have a cheapo CD wallet with my burned SegaCD games stuffed in it. I really don't see why that would be such a big issue to have laying around. Beats having to wipe a disc and reburn whenever I want to switch games lol.

Oh god, CD wallet! Even though it's a bunch of cheap burned discs I can't stand the thought of it.

I actually use a CD wallet for my burns too. Burns have no glamor, they deserve nothing better than a CD wallet. Trying to keep them all in jewel cases got annoying to too space consuming. A wallet is easier to look through than a spindle, so a wallet is what I went with.

If I had a cd wallet around still, I probably would be fine with sticking burns in it too. They're just burns, I don't generally care if some copied games get damaged or anything like that.

If you guys saw my computer room/where my retro consoles are hooked up at, you'd understand why I don't want to have wallets of burns (not that I plan on burning a ton of games). My computer room and garage would make the coolest episode of Hoarders ever. :-P


At any rate, we don't need to keep debating my intentions here. Was simply hoping to do the "access to everything in one place" or "recycle the same piece over and over" thing to avoid more clutter. Thanks!

Well just so you know, outside of it being harder for the Sega CD to read the CD-RW and putting more wear and tear on it, CD-RWs can be a pain in the ass. Before USB flash sticks were affordable or even available, I thought I'd use a CD-RW for USB stick purposes. I had a friend give me a single CD-RW disc, and I thought I'd be set. Rewrites take longer, and erasing the disc took FOREVER. It wasn't worth the time, to be honest.

Not to debate what you wanna do, but I just wanted to ask, how many burns are you planning on having? The single CD wallet I use has a capacity of maybe 50-100 discs or so (I never really counted). I use it for burns for PS1, Saturn, Sega CD, and maybe a few other randoms. I have it maybe half filled, and I've almost exhausted the games I was interested in checking out for said consoles. And honestly, if I ever get to the point where the wallet is getting filled up, I could go thru it and toss a bunch of them. "Well this game turned out to suck, I'm never gonna play it again!"

Anyway, my point is, a single wallet that holds 50~100 discs only takes up a small amount of room. Even a larger 4x4 wallet doesn't take up much room. Unless you're planning on having burns for every game of a console, I think a single wallet should do it.
