Monsho still shows its NES roots and has some clunky mechanics as a result. Thracia adds several frustrating mechanics and is balls hard. Seisen has the birth of the weapon triangle, skills, and the generational system. You also get the satisfaction of being able to use your entire army every map, and I personally like how the maps are large with changing objectives; it makes the game feel more like a military campaign rather than a series of small skirmishes.alienjesus wrote:Any particular reason why Seisen no Keifu over Monsho no Nazo or Thracia 776?Ack wrote:Really? Is this list your compiling limited to jRPG styled games in specific or are dungeon crawler/western style RPGs welcome like Arcana and Shadowrun?
Re: Super Nintendo and Super Famicom RPGs
Personally I'm interested in all SNES games. I must admit, I have large knowledge gaps when it comes to the western-styled RPGs on the console.Raiiban wrote:Is this list your compiling limited to jRPG styled games in specific or are dungeon crawler/western style RPGs welcome like Arcana and Shadowrun?
Re: Super Nintendo and Super Famicom RPGs
My favorite SNES Rpg's are:
Secret of Mana
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy VI
Tales of Phantasia
While i have others:
Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest
Illusion of Gaia
I really enjoyed Tales of Phantasia and played it all the way through, i love the battle system and the amount of weapons and silly items in the game (at least in the translation).
Where do fellow Racketboy Members purchase their Translation cart's from other than ebay?
Ive been eyeing this website for quiet a while:
http://www.gamereproductions.com/index.php
Just have not got around to ordering from them, the prices are acceptable but i still think a bit high.

Actually there used to be a couple of members who were doing them. Unfortunately some of the work here ended up on eBay under bogus claims for double the amount, so those members producing repros decided to get out of the business to prevent future problems.Hazerd wrote:Where do fellow Racketboy Members purchase their Translation cart's from other than ebay?

Re: Super Nintendo and Super Famicom RPGs
Here are a few more...
AD&D: Eye of the Beholder
Dungeon Master
Might & Magic III: Isles of Terra
Ultima: The Black Gate
Ultima: The False Prophet
Ultima: Runes of Virtue II
Wizardy V: Heart of the Maelstrom
I have all except Ultima: The Black Gate in my collection, but admittedly, I have not spent much time with any of them.

There are some solid WRPGs on the SNES, but I'd rather play almost all of them on the PC (DOSBox).
Except for Eye of the Beholder, which rules on Sega CD.
Oh, and the Ultima ports are really bad.

I know you said you aren't into imports, but if that ever changes, I thought Alcahest was a pretty sweet little game by Square that was never brought here.

How I forgot that is beyond me. Damn fine import there. HAL Laboratory developed it, Square was the publisher.
