I'll second Valkyria Chronicles. It's incredible. If you like SRPGs, you should also try out Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement.

If you want a NIS alchemy game, Atelier Meruru and Atelier Ayesha are supposed to be the best.
DS, not PSP. Many of the PSP's best RPGs were just ports, while the DS had the most new games.

I enjoyed it. The battle system takes some getting used to (though not as bad as Xenosaga 2's) but it's really fun when you figure it out. I also liked how the game played out like a 13 episode anime that has an underlying plotline but also has episodic parts; it allowed the game to dodge the "omg, you must sabe da world!1!"

I liked Resonance of Fate a lot. I was going to mention it, but I hesitated because it seems to be a polarizing game. The gameplay takes some getting used to and the game can be very difficult and punishing, and the humor/storytelling is really whacky. The gameplay kind of reminded me of Parasite Eve on crack. I think there is a demo on PSN.

I'm glad for PSP getting ports. I honestly can't bring myself to complete RPGs on consoles anymore. At least until PS4. Being able to suspend games, like a portable, is a HUGE selling point for me. Sometimes I play a game for 10 - 20 min on my Vita. Sometimes hours. But having the option to just pick it up and play for 10 min without waiting for the system to boot and then waiting through all the company logos and menus is huge. And not needing to find any sort of save point.

This is a good point, the best RPGs of the 7th gen ended up on handhelds. Though I do agree with Mr. PoPo - the DS library is stronger.

Can you share your favorites for PSP and DS w/ me? Still enjoying Ys Seven. In fact, it has gotten better as things have progressed. Could send it via PM since it is off topic. :P

I don't think anyone mentioned it to you, but it's important to note that the Demon's Souls online servers were shut down. So multiplayer is no longer possible for that. However, yes, tons of people still play Dark Souls. Depending on the area in the game/time of day though it can be hard sometimes to find someone else to interact with.

The best console RPG's this gen were, in my opinion, the multiplatform title's such as the Fallout's and FFXIII. So I won't bother recommending those since you already have a 360 it seems. Though it's worth mentioning that if you haven't already given FFXIII a chance then the PS3 version get's the slight edge from being all on one disc instead of three.

Lastly, where the Atelier games are concerned, I haven't played them myself. But I understand what they're like enough to say that they're like RPG-lite title's. Combat is very easy from what I've heard, and the storie's are simple but enjoyable, while the majority of the gameplay is based around crafting item's with alchemy. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. Will have to give em a try someday.

Hope that helps.

Yakuza 3 and 4 are decent action rpgs to be honest.
