I assume it was the link for widescreen game patches (which I wouldn't of gone on because it's for patches, not cheats)?

Judging by the pictures in the other thread, this does look pretty good. (I don't know if this thread was supposed to have pictures, but I cant see them.) If I had a PS2 I would definitely try it.

Its kind of cool how this can be done with 3D games. The rendering improvements that emulators can do makes old 3d games look amazing. Now if only emulator performance was good. It's nice that this can be done with actual hardware so you can avoid those problems.

Now if only the PS2 had a digital out for video. I'm not a fan of anamorphic widescreen, something always seemed off about it to me. Maybe its the pixel splitting, but I've never had a problem with uneven scaling ratios for 4:3, so who knows what it is. Stretching always bothered me as well, I used to intentionally buy the widescreen versions of DVDs back when I used a 4:3, and watch them letterboxed on a 20 inch.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know people were working on stuff like this. Now I kind of wish you could do that on GameCube.

Hm...it's probably possible with GameCube, but no one is working on it. The Dolphin emulator can force widescreen, but my PC is way too slow.

I'd probably use emulators all the time if I had a powerful PC. PCSX2 and Dolphin have really excellent performance now, far better than a few years ago. Strange how PS2 and Wii emulation turned out way better than N64 emulation.

Component looks great on my 24" TV in both formats. Even if you used a digital output, the PS2's internal resolution wouldn't change. There are a few games, like Valkyrie Profile 2, which output at 540p in "true widescreen." Yeah, go and play that.

About stretching. Some games like Wild Arms look great with this method. Fatal Frame 2, on the other hand, isn't quite as sharp. Still a pretty game, but the animation is so exquisite I should probably view it in 4:3.

I guess just use whichever you enjoy more. For those of us who love widescreen games, this is pretty cool.

If only NeoGamma could work like GS Mode Selector and force 16:9/60HZ/480p/Etc. I'd then have a problem with the fact I keep a GameCube around but still!

I actually haven't had much luck with GSM on my TV. When I use it to force 480p, it outputs a progressive image in the game's native resolution. If I try Final Fantasy X, I get progressive scan but 512x416. If I try a higher resolution, it only fills the top half of the screen...pretty strange. Games that natively support 480p look perfect.

I think that's simply a combination of comparative lack of interest with the N64 just plain having some quirky hardware.
