This man needs suggestions! My thought:

Might I suggest in ascending order:

Patron Silver: packs a punch, but is delicious.

Milagro Reposado: HOLY SHIT. This is smooooth. It goes down like a great scotch would. I highly recommend this. If I want premium tequila, this is my go to tequila, especially for the price.

Hurradura: My future father-in-law swears by the stuff, but I haven't tried it yet. He went from random stuff (like 1800) to Milagro to Hurradura, but I think he has a new one now that's even better. The price keeps me away from buying any. I think he prefers the Supremo.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to Tequila, but I do think that - for the price - Cazadores Reposado is hard to beat:

It is great for margaritas, but you an certainly drink it neat (and enjoy the experience).

My recommendation is to not drink Tequila.

Yeah, I'm not a fan.

Hurradura
Yes and yes.

I just purchased two fifths of Hurradura for a THREE AMIGOS themed party. I like my tequila to go down smooth, but still taste like tequila. Both of Pwuaioc's suggestions meet that criteria. They're also both tequilas that you could drink neat. They are a bit pricey, but they're worth it.

If you are purchasing tequila to make mixed drinks with, Jose would be fine.

If you are looking to get obnoxiously drunk and eventually black out to wake up naked in your front yard, drink a bottle of Mezcal.

Haha, I avoid it too. I enjoy the taste very much (and I can't say no to a margarita) but every time I get drunk off tequila I get way too emotional in the worst possible way.

At any rate, I'm enjoying these recommendations. I might try Cazadores Reposado for the next margarita night.

I have the extreme pleasure to say I've never gotten sick from tequila.

But I'll admit that one time in high school a mixture of vodka and Orbitz made quite the mix for projectile vomit.
