I did not watch it, but I read somewhere else that since it is not PS3 backwards compatible many of the PSN (mostly the PS+) free games will not play on the PS4.

Can someone confirm this to be true or not that watched... I hate to think that the $ I spent on PS+ and PS3 downloadable games would be lost when I upgrade.

They did mention that PS4 will not natively support PS3 games. However, beyond that they did not elaborate so we will have to wait and see. I'm hoping for at least PS1 and PS2 BC and not just through PSN. Then again, we still have no idea if this device is supporting some form of physical media (I'm assuming it will).

They're apparently planning to roll out a cloud based solution.

Yeah PS3 and PS4 have different chip set/technical stuff so backwards compatability disc-wise won't work.

Here's a good snapshot of the headlines:

The capabilities they illustrated for that seem like they would be solid gold for fans of twitch.tv, Lets Play, or basically any other Youtube/etc style gaming stuff.

I'm not big on that stuff either, but there are a -lot- of people who are, so it makes a ton of sense to include.

Not to mention that you can let people jump in and control the game.

I was really expecting Square Enix to announce that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being overhauled for PS4. That would certainly explain why is it taking so long. Maybe that will be the mystery Final Fantasy title that they teased.

I really liked the Vita integration and the Gaikai guy's speech. If more PS1 and PS2 games are available for download it might drive prices down on the physical copies.

I also liked that they intend for downloads to be less obtrusive. Nothing like sticking in an older PS3 title and having to wait 2 hours to play it (Little Big Planet...I'm looking at you).

I don't know if that will drive prices down, but I do think it'll help prevent them from going up.

They drop in price sometimes with a digital release. Marvel vs Capcom 2 for PS2 plummeted in price just before it was released on XBLA/PSN.
