There are legitimate cheat devices for that sorta thing.

I will say that the card mini-game (was there a Chocobo mini-game?) was pretty addictive. I focused on that more than the actual plot.

Oh, I've gotten to the point where I never 100% anything besides Castlevania and Mario games almost exclusively. So that isn't a problem.

I appreciate the input. I mean, I was only like eleven when I played the first game and I was an avid Playstation hater (minus Castlevania SOTN) at the time.

It sounds like there's a split between worth trying again and not worth trying again.

I bought FF7 on PSN and I just cannot play it anymore. The load times, battle times, confusing graphics, etc. just make it frustrating. However, I still can play Final Fantasy 9 and enjoy it. Is FF8 on the PSN closer to FF7 or 9?

I have a hard time play antiquated RPGs, especially on Playstation.

definitely 9. the character models are much more detailed when compared to 7, and the cut scenes use much better camera angles. Don't remember about the load times to be honest

The story has to be one of the most stupid i have ever seen in a video game. This would be a terrible plot for a cheap game, but a game with this kind of budgets should not have this happen. This game is so full of STUPID plot holes it nearly ruins the game for me. I'm indifferent on magic drawing. I think its a cool idea but it didn't work that well in exucution.

care to elaborate on the plot holes? I haven't played the game in a long time, but I remember that a lot of complaints about the plot were not really plot holes but due to the nature of the story (which is a timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly circular time travel story) or because of the usual "she/he was just destined to be [something]," which is found in many Final Fantasy stories (or fantasy stories, for that matter.)

One thing I remember bothering me was the secret place that the Balamb students sneak off into (kind of makes you wonder what they do in there *wink* *nudge*). It looked like it wasn't part of the garden (as you can see the garden itself from there), but when the garden became mobile, you can still see the bridge that leads to said place even though it should have been left behind. Not a plot hole, though, as it was the fault of the designers instead of the writers.

*SPOILERS* Well, of the ones who've been at the orphanage, only Irvine had recently taken up the use of GFs. And since he joins the party early in the game, he should have had just about the same rate of memory loss as the others. However, he's shown to still have retained his childhood memories by the game's end. It's that the others have been using GFs for a good number of years that the memory loss occurred. HE KNEW THEY GREW UP IN A ORPHANAGE TOGETHER AND NEGLECTED TO MENTION IT THE WHOLE GAME! It defeinitely would have been nice to tell the party that before he had to basically shoot his own mother. Might clear a few things up.

Also is there any point in trying to explain who the fuck norg is?

*spoilers*

The way I understood the story is that the others were already junctioning GFs for years, hence the severe loss of memory. Irvine only recently started using GFs when he joined the party, so it's not as severe. In Selphie's case, she admitted that she once found a GF inside a cave when she was younger and started junctioning it.

It was also Irvine who made the effort to get everyone to remember when he left them during the stay in Trabia Garden, so technically it's not like he didn't bother. Maybe he didn't do it sooner because he understood what they need to do and felt that the others would not be so keen on completing SeeD's mission once they realize they're going to assassinate their matron. This makes it look like Irvine's failure to shoot Edea earlier wasn't really a nervous breakdown, but an inability to shoot someone he cares about (what I would consider iffy is if it was really a nervous breakdown, as Irvine is a trained soldier who has no trouble shooting the soldiers you encounter along the way).

As for him readily accepting that his friends have forgotten, I believe it's common knowledge in their world that junctioning GFs cause memory loss (I mean, the ability to junction GFs was discovered by a scientist, so there's probably experiments and documentation done), which is why Balamb is the only garden that allows it.

As for Norg, I don't understand why he is a plot hole. He's a rich and probably corrupt Shumi. You can visit his tribe later on in the game so it's not like he appears out of nowhere. His character is directly in contrast with his kind (right down to the fact that he doesn't hide his hands), which could explain why he's not in his tribe - maybe he was cast out, or maybe he left because he wanted to pursue more earthly endeavors.

Norg's role in the Garden is also not a mystery. He's almost like Jabba the Hut, and Cid approached him for financing. Which explains why they are constantly at odds with each other with regard to policies/decisions. Cid wants to use SeeD to kill the sorcerers, while Norg is just in it for the money.

You might enjoy this game. I did the first time around. There are other games that do everything better, though. If you're looking for a love story, go play Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant.
